RF 97 question

Quick question....i just picked up a new RF 97 on the bay brand new (current black model)I have used this frame before and strung up they are around 12.6. This one I have is 12.3 strung with Wilson pro OG. I know Wilson QC is questionable however that is a pretty big difference. Has anyone else had an RF 97 come in so light....not that I'm complaining, actually, I am looking forward to trying the lower swing weight. I can always add weight right......thanks in advance

Unfortunately, that's the norm when it comes to Wilson.

As a matter of fact, they're so bad that if and when I purchase frames from Wilson, I have to do one of the following:
- Find a local shop with a massive stock of the grip size I need, and hand pick a batch out
- Pay for TW's awesome matching service.

Ok that's what I thought about Wilson. I purchased from a person with 1500 plus feedback and 99.7 percent. I have other RF 97s and this one seems as legit as the others. Just lower weight than the others.

I'd love to hear your comment on the bay. Your comment is suggesting not to purchase from the bay, but why?
First try to buy from an Authorizing dealer. If the they are an Authorizing dealer on the bay, make sure you have proof and your purchased is back just like you walked into there doors.
Staying with an Authorized dealer builds the industry, creates jobs, you are pretty much assured of a higher level of reliability and hopefully honesty.
You should have a "reachable contact". You should receive only factory brand merchandise, depending on the item, some with a manuf. backed warranty.
Still buying from the bay is a pure faceless transaction. Connecting to someone can be a challenge, to say the less.
Now yes, there are some good honest ones on the bay, if you must just be extremely selective and do your homework, if you must...

If are you going to purchase from an unauthorized dealer, you should consider the following. Some unauthorized dealers sell products with the serial numbers altered, or entirely removed so that the manufacturers cannot track how they obtained these units and what channels or country they are sold in. This voids the warranty. Some unauthorized dealers sell "grey / black market goods" or "parallel import" versions of the products. These are similar versions that were not intended for distribution in the USA. Or specifically targeted for USA as fakes. In many instances, the manufacturers will not honor the warranty or rebate offers on products that are not sold through their approved sales networks. Even when the merchandise is the legitimate USA version, some unauthorized dealers will take accessories from the unit and sell them separately at an additional profit/ cost. Some dealers will sell refurbished products without informing you of this. So these are just some of potential pitfalls from buying from the bay or a faceless unauthorized dealer.

The counterfeit Report has received thousands of counterfeit products from reported bay sellers and identified well over 1 million counterfeit items listed or sold to the bay consumers. Fake black market (which feeds criminals) items –items that never existed in the manufacturer’s product line — but had the manufacturer’s trademark. The Counterfeit Report continued with multiple purchases from dozens of the same sellers after notifying the bay of the criminal activity, yet the sellers remained. Thousands of the bay “Money Back Guarantee” claims initiated by The Counterfeit Report proved to be a difficult gauntlet of obstructions, illegal directions and arbitrary decisions. Inexplicably, the bay initiates a refund claim by requiring the buyer to return the counterfeit item to the seller, where it could be easily resold again. Sadly counterfeit purchasers are not told they have purchased a fake and yes can be entitled to a the bay “Money Back Guarantee” refund ( but it can be very tough and quite a lengthy process).

You can make a big difference in your actions when buying!

I usually do buy from TW and often use the classified section. I wanted an RF as a fun stick to play with as I just purchased 2 matched sticks (prince) from TW. I came across a good price on yab for a new RF, and I grabbed it. I hear what your saying about authorized dealers and I agree with you. I also use yab for other items other than tennis. IMO Wilson is charging an obscene amount $(250) for a new stick and I will not purchase at the price regardless of the racket. They pushed the envelope at $220 for the first generation, $250 is where I draw the line. Sometimes you take a chance. If you get burned then so be it, but sometimes you come out on top and get a good deal.

I just bought a RF 97 today form my hitting partner who let me try it. I was astounded by it's stability and plow through. He went with the 18x16 lighter versions and didn't want the weight of the RF model. His loss, my gain.

Thanks for the detailed response. I always enjoy reading your responses on here. I thought that this was what you meant initially, and I do agree with you.

I love my rf97, but now I'm completely set on an Angell 97,just don't know how to spec it out. Plus, really dogging their reviews and new upcoming designs.

still haven’t gotten a response on this yet. How does the RF01 pro compare to a pro staff V14?

I slapped on a leather grip on my pro staff and I feel like the weight and balance became exactly identical to the RF01 pro. Stiffness also similar, so what exactly is the difference?

They are very similar racquets. If you can play one, you can play the other. Just comes down to personal preference. I just picked up the PS97 v14, coming from
An RF97. Am 100% sure I can pick up an RF01 Pro and have no problems with it whatsoever.

When I bought my RF97A v11’s from TW I paid for the matching specs option. Here they are (unstrung w/ shrink wrapped handle)

Static Weight: 12.245
Balance Point: 11 HL
Swing Weight: 312

Tolerances were wide on that model run
