At this rate DEL POTRO will end up having a new wrist injury.

I have come to France, to Roland Garros ,to Phillips Chatrier to hit to your backhand,no?

Federer takes down the handsomeness barometer to the ground. He doesnt have it. Sorry.

Nadal again starting poorly. He either has confidence issues or feels pressure. Don't know which is it and why.

Man, I miss those mammoth forehands by Del Potro. Probably the hardest forehand I've seen, maybe Gonzalez comes close.

nadal has definitely had a hard time with his serve this tournament, lots of bps on his serve. granted it is super hard to convert them

Nadal looks nervous out there. I think he's got an uphill battle. Looks really shaky.

Pressure is getting to him. To have to live up to a legend. Too many expectations, and he doesn't play freely.

He's playing not to lose, not playing to win.

If DelPo wants to win this, he needs to show Nadal some respect and really rip those forehands. People can be too nice towards Rafa sometimes. Rafa is a world-athlete, treat him like one.

Del Potro's backhand is a liability right now. It looked like he improved that shot last year. Because he can't hit a decent backhand, he couldn't break Rafa's serve. No way he wins this match or a set hitting that shot like that.

That's the problem. He is showing too much respect towards Rafa. He should just forget who he is playing and slap those FH's.

Many loopy/spinny forehands from Delpo, don't get why.

people are weird about rafa and his supposed nerves, I mean I'm sure he has some nerves but like he's been here before many times, and it always be far more challenging for his opponent.

Del Potro asked for some anti-inflammatories (as per The Tennis Channel.) Something is bothering him physically.

Nadal looks poor again, just like at the beginning of the Schwartzmann match. Poor serving, no depth on his shots. I don't know if he will get away with the win this time.

I've noticed Rafa often starts off a little behind and loses the first set, while he checks out his opponent and formulates a strategy. Then in the 2nd set, sometimes the 3rd, he puts it all together and thunders home with the win.

I hope delpo's injury isn't too bad. I don't mind the strategy of picking and choosing when to redline on his forehand, don't let rafa get into any kind of rhythm. Especially considering rafa's struggling to hold his serve...if delpo hold's consistently he could give nadal trouble

Potro is not injured. He's just playing possum like he does against Federer too. Lull the opponent into complacence and finish them. That's just the way he plays.

I hope he won't. The last point of this match deserves to be a blistering forehand winner by Juan-Martin. Nadal should not be able to win the title with his C game.

Did Nadal perform some black magic at the French open in his teens? What is up with his luck with rain and injured opponents?!

Stand closer to the baseline ffs, guy might have a hip injury and he's standing that far back?

2 droppers from rafa. 30 all.
delpo needs to return from closer to the baseline than he is currently , seriously !

Someone with decent movement and a decent backhand would have broken Rafa 2 times by now. He is so beatable this tournament and it still looks like he will walk off with the title.

0-30, 0-40, 0-30 and no breaks of serve... God damn it, Delpo has to get closer to the baseline because he's dominating Nadal with his forehand.

Funny how Fed fans don't say anything about Del Potro holding his leg but hammering the forehand as hard as ever. If it was Nadal we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Can people stop using "Fed fans" as a shorthand for people who don't like Nadal? It's lazy and it just intensifies the endless boring Fedal wars on here.

I'm a Fed fan, and I don't usually complain about people's injury timeouts etc. Most of these players (Delpo and Nadal certainly) have experienced so much injury heartbreak that you can hardly blame them for being careful. Also, when you are losing / not feeling the ball, again that can easily get in your head and exaggerate any niggles to you.

Djokovic at the beginning of his career is the only one I can remember where it really was a bit dubious and excessive. However, he was inexperienced at the time, and quickly reined it in.

2018 Delpo = 2009 Soderling

I don't know though, Del Potro doesn't look like he has the legs to hang in with Rafa for 4-5 tough sets. Rafa's already exploited his lack of movement with two drop shots in the last game. I'm thinking that's going to be a considerably part of his strategy today - generate some short angles to pull Delpo off the court or push him back with a few heavy spin forehand and then just drop shot him after that.

Delpo had a bit of a brainf@rt there going back crosscourt to Nadal as he was at the net.

Still holds serve fairly comfortably to 30, but as Nadal dials in more into his service games, such mistakes may become costly.

Wimbledon ?
which Wimbledon ?

lmao sorry my comment got cut off, granted it is not a direct comparison since nadal is far more vulnerable on grass and that match went 5 sets, but during the 5th set nadal was constantly down 0-30 on his serve and it obviously not until the end he lost but I remember following the thread and I would just see comments 0-30, here we go again and again

He will my friend. Delpo not looking that good either. Also Nadal is very good at discovering form mid match especially on clay and RG.

Let's see, I hope Nadal will up his game in the middle of the match. I find his form in the QF and SF to be rather poor, usually he steamrolls his opponents on Philippe Chatrier once he reaches the 2nd week.

Delpo's done well taking care of his service games. But should've really broken once. Just didn't amp it up at those 0-30, 0-40,0-30 return games, while Nadal did.

If Nadal wins this set it will be yet another Houdini act.

He's been coming up with the smart play though when it has been getting close on his serve, so credit to him.

Nadal really has been quite poor at the moment. Delpo had to basically stay in the point to beat him. Seems to have regained his form in the past three points.

this is cr*p stuff from delpo when he's had his chances.

Nadal holds with a nice point.

One of the very rarely talked about aspects of the Soderling match was that he converted his chances big time. 6/7 on BP chances !

All those missed break points for Del Potro!

Feels like so many of Fed's clay matches against Nadal ... we need a Del Potro version of "Breakpointerer".

Del Breakpointro?

Delpo is in this match so far ...... That's the best we can ask for. A bit nervous on break points but he is definitely applying pressure on Nadal.

Delpo is standing so much behind the baseline. He knows he does not have great movement like nadal and still.....
Come on man, play from atleast neat the baseline if not from inside it

0/6 on break points this set. I have no idea why he is so far back receiving serve and he really has let Rafa off the hook time and time again on his serve.
