Big 3 are there, Thiem and Sascha are there, Delpo might join them. Every French is out, and Fabio is out.

2nd week shaping up so well. (y)

Every time I see this, I get amazed. Has to be the best and the cockiest celebration of all time.
Props to Zverev.
If only, he could play good tennis.

I love this cocky self belief. No player's gonna get to the top without self belief that he belongs there.

Quality win for Z over a top clay courter, exactly how to play a best of five match. If he cuts down on the DFs he has a good chance in the quarters.

Really? I thought he played pedestrian tennis.
He will get obliterated by Novak next round.

That he well may. The two statements are not mutually exclusive. He could have played well today and still not be good enough to beat Nole. But after the first set which was indeed ordinary, he played well and got better as the match wore on.

That's because both Federer and Del Potro aren't winning as much as they should.

When Federer is winning, it's weak era. When Nadalovic win, it's modern grinding tennis due to manipulated conditions (add Djokovic/Nadal would never win on 90s grass etc). Unhappiness is the healthy equilibrium of TTW.

plus I'm pretty sure that is not the cockiest celebration ever. I like how that celebration is constantly used as a representation of his arrogance, meanwhile some other habits of certain players like being ****ty to ball boys, smashing out balls, general gamesmanship means they are trying and are not afraid of the big 3. like it or not, sascha is still the only one of the next gen with multiple ms and a WTF by defeating fed/djokovic back to back. now were either in their best forms, probably not but we all know how hard is to defeat one let alone two back to back. its probably been one of the reasons we dont see new gs winners because you get rid of one, the other 1 or 2 are there to **** block.

Zverev gets it done in 4 and makes just his 2nd quarter-final at a Slam (both at RG) , 1 year after making his 1st. Can he go any further this year?

Ofcourse he can, but its tough. Djokovic had a much easier draw so far.

But I think just getting his form back and reaching quarters is a huge boost for Sascha. If he does lose to Novak, at least he can head to the grass with something to build from.

But when Federer is winning, Federer is winning. Had you considered this?

If you are a Fed fan, yes. For all other fanbases, including Murray, Fed winning = instant proof of weak era. And this is irrespective of even if he beats Nishi, Waw and Nadal in 5 setters in the same slam.
This much is true. However, regardless of fanbase, Federer would be winning.

its interesting because contrary to what people might think, zverev is not the one who constantly put himself as the next person to take the mantle from the big 3, he put himself in the best position i think in 2018 maybe, but anytime people would ask him oh so and so says you could be the next all time great, he would def get uncomfortable and ****, i think he has confidence in his abilities, imo i have more issues with his stubbornness to stand so far back and not acknowledge it could be an issue for him

edit; *insert federer's STOP MOVING BACK!
Exactly. People like to call him arrogant for his celebrations (and they have the right to, he can be very annoying) but you'll hardly ever see him describe himself as the best of his generation, the heir to the ATP or whatever nonsense this forum comes up with. All that hype came from the commentators, players, and coaches outside of his team.

It would be pretty wild if he did.

I think he should consider it.

BTW what a thread!
To see the evolution in the posts of some of the people here going from utter joy to high school like fury to complete despair was such joy :giggle:

I'd love to, just to see this place go insane with those comments. Complete and pure mayhem

But naaaah he'll never do it. He's too vanilla to try going for that image

Does this mean Sascha finally defeated a top 50 player in a GS tournament? Is this a first!?:eek:o_O

oh for sure sascha can be annoying and I have rolled my eyes at OTT celebrations, but i also understand its their way of getting pumped up. I mean I have seen rafa fist pump, duck walk etc in circumstances where he was steam rolling his opponent or it was obvious he was going to win. Ofcourse I know sascha isn't at rafa's level at all, but I use him because he is not shy about his celebrations, even when he first came on the scene, probably one of the reasons people were drawn to him because they found it passionate. No one thinks of rafa as arrogant, in fact its the quite opposite.

I do wonder if its also when you read some of the things sascha says it comes across as arrogant when he is being sarcastic because he does have a very sarcastic sense of humor, which I do enjoy

There must be something of that. Most of his "arrogant" comments are either sarcastic ones or jokes. I guess this gets lost in translation for most people as I'm sure they are not the kind to watch the videos of his press conferences.
