i dont think the cool weather will help the length of nadals balls either. hopefully Thiem will jump all over them and punish them severely.

My girlfriend asked me, after reading this, if you are co-author of "Fifty shades of grey"?

Not sure about it, reads more like a quote from "Carry on.." movie script...

If Nadal plays his A game then he will win 3. But we never know, Nadal looked so strong and 100% fit in SF against Fed but suddenly got injured in the very next match. So if DT can take the ball early and smack it with full force then anything can happen.
I would say DT will get at least one set off Nadal.

I respect Stringertom's devotion to Thiem, I actually like Thiem and have posted in the Thiem thread since the beginning but let's get real. To think that Thiem will beat Nadal in the second round of Roland Garros at just 20 years old is crazy. If prime Federer and Djokovic couldn't do it (maybe this year) then how the hell is Thiem going to do it?

I hope this is a good match and Thiem keeps it close, but come on. Nadal is winning this match in straight sets. I could see a scoreline of 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 happening. Let's hope I'm wrong.

No one has mentioned anything about the Astrology of Thiem. How come??

The astrology says DT is a Virgo with Moon in Aries. Notables with this Sun/Moon combination include; Guga Kuerten, & Ernests Gulbis.

The astrology shows that Theim's big breakthrough should come any day now, but the window is closing fast. In truth, looking as his chart, he should've made a lot of noise a few years back, say ages 17 - 19 (especially 19), because it was around that time when the planets were in favorable alignment for him to go on a Goat-run...if he had the talent.

His Sun just left Virgo for Libra, that in combination with his moon in Capricorn should give him a massive cosmic boost. Thiem is lucky to have had such a generous confluence of aspects for what is going on four years now. Most people only have a window of 2.5 years to strike. As stated earlier the window is closing fast. It all depends on how much longer his moon remains in Capricorn.

The Good: Planets are aligned so he will impress.

The Bad: He must produce NOW - slam win or runner-up, if he's to be a contender or heir to the Big Four.

great post, mate.

I've said it elsewhere: "A" game Nadal wins and maybe easily if the Thieminator is struggling (looked fresh 1R), closer if he's not. If "C minus" short-ball, slow-moving Nadal shows up, and he has much more often this season, then I stand by Thiem in 5. I'm hoping they both play well and Dominic comes out on top. New blood is desperately needed! He's that chance. Carpe Thiem!

True, but I can't see Thiem winning, especially in 5 sets, against whatever version of Nadal shows up. He's not there, game-wise yet to topple Nadal at Roland Garros.

We'll see though! Match to start second on Chatrier, so in about 9 hours or so, it'll be here!

Was the boys final he lost (6-8 in the third to Fratangelo) played there??? BTW, that kid has not made the quantum jump to the "bigs"!

BTW what happened to Fratangelo? He spends part of his time in Pittsburgh (where I live) so I see him training now and then at my club. But I never really talked to him much. Rumor around here has it that he has been injured and struggling on tour. Anyone here know more about him? How much potential does he have? Great things were expected by the Pittsburgh tennis community after he beat Thiem in that FO final. Sadly it hasn't really worked out up to now.

Thieminator will Thieminate Nadal in 3 easy sets.

Doing the Challengers last time I checked. I think he played their FL/GA swing recently, with little luck.

I think Nadal wins this in four but I can't stop thinking of the following :

R1 - Day 1 - AO Mens Champion Out
R1 - Day 2 - AO Womens Champion Out
R2 - Day 3 - FO Womens Champion Out
R2 - Day 4 - FO Mens Champion Out ?

Would be a strange coincidence if it happens

Only way I can see Nadal losing is if he gets injured and retires, but that would be spooky if this continued.

Then - Murray loses, Bartoli can't lose so dunno what happens there... thenit ends cos Nadal and serena are already out

I'm DVD recording this match, in case Thiem becomes the next dominant player. Especially important to record French Open matches, as they aren't allowed on youtube.

True, unlike the other slams where matches get splashed all over the internet, RG matches are carefully preserved to be savored exclusively by connoisseurs.

Maybe this is overhyped, but I think Thiem is different from the rest...he's more than just your Nishi/Dimitrov/Raonic. There's a sense of newness, he's his own man without previous losses to bring him down. Dimitrov was called baby Fed, while Raonic is really just another big server. But Dom is just Dom. Wont be surprised if its 4, 2, and 1 but I'm still really looking forward to this.

This old road again: Switch on the Playstation, try the impossible clay challenge, and at some point have to meet the final boss. This game isn't even fair because it's possible for some players to meet the final boss BEFORE the final round.

Anyone got any game codes?

I'm not even sure game codes would work.

super super super excited about this match. I wanna see what thiem can do to rafa! thiem has grown into this super powerful young guy with a sweet 1hbh. Can't wait to see those down the line winners from thiem on clay against rafa :) gonna be a tough fight for rafa, Thiem in 4 sets? possibility

Pass. Me. The Pipe!

One thing going against Thiem - it's incredibly hard to take just a set off Rafa on clay, not least at RG.
One thing he's got going for him - it's been a whole lot easier to do just that outside RG this year.
Another thing going for him - he's a point-ender, exactly the kind of player, Rafa struggles with from time to time.

Still hard to see it going to more than 4 though (not least if we presume Thiem wins this - he needs to finish it in four ;-) ).

if Thiem brings his set of steel b.a.l.l.s and do his homework properly, with Nadal not playing in the zone, and various other conditions favoring aggressive strokes,
he might get this tight,

I agree with this post. Looks to me like Thiem has a huge game that he is capable of controlling. I see most likely conclusion for today is a straight sets win for Nadal. I think Thiem needs to get a few more matches under his belt against the big players before he will really be a contender. Look at Del Potro at AO 2009. There was big hype for his match with Federer but he was not ready for the big boys, but 8 months later he was a slam champion. I think Thiem is at a similar point to Del Potro in AO 09. Huge potential but not quite ready. Hope he gives us something to get excited about but I would not hype him up for a win here!

Thiem to win the first 3 sets without breaking a sweat. Because it was so easy, he'll request for the match to be extended to a bo11. Nadal, humble as he is, will accept this offer. Thiem will then proceed to gift Nadal 5 sets only to come storming back to win 6-5 after 10 hours and 253 winners, all coming from his 1hbh.

After the obligatory press conferences, he'll quickly run a marathon on one leg, carrying two tree logs uphill and will fall 1 second short of breaking the world record. Just so he has some challenges left in the future.

I know what you are trying to say... but dude, Delpo went into AO'09 as a top 10, with several titles under his belt. He even played YEC'08. Not the best comparison.

This is more like Hewitt vs Nadal (AO'04) :D

nice try but didn't work so well.. :(

Jankovic seems to be 4 games away. Not long to go before the most hyped match of the year so far , which I think will end in an anti climax.
