If it were sunny, Thiem would be hitting those shots from the fences.

Good defense for BP, Nadal was playing pretty brainless.

Seriously, Thiem is playing out of this world, I don't care what the score is. Indeed reminds me of Almagro game wise. And I read somewhere that he has a crazy fitness coach and I get the feeling that mentally Thiem is so strong. A real warrior just like Nadal.
Maybe I'm hyping things up, but I think this guy is going to go very far.
Also, can someone get him to teach Federer how to hit a backhand?

He sometimes enters god-mode, but, really, is incapable of doing anything much to Nadal.

Thiem has nice strokes from both sides. Just needs to be able to take the ball a bit earlier with the forehand, but I'm very impressed with his stroke consistency and weight of shot. Some great defense too, looks like those workouts with that crazy fitness trainer of his are paying off.

People love to b*tch about Nadal all the time, but the fact is that he's a really complete player. No obvious weaknesses.

People, don't forget that this is thiem's first year on tour.
He chose to arrive late..

Give him two year before tagging as overrated or underrated.

Well, Nole beats him by playing really great all around himself; it's not like he exploits an intrinsic weakness. I mean, hitting return winners, FHs to the line and good dropshots works against anyone.

Well, imo Nadal is playing pretty well at the moment. So I can't blame this 20 year old that he's not beating an in-form Nadal at RG.
But I don't know, I'm just very impressed with his game. Seems to have a strong body as well. His game is very offensive, but still somewhat controlled (not like JJ for example), and his backhand is holding up pretty well against Nadal's topspin (which is why I think he's very strong physically).

Anyone who's seen Nadal in the tournaments leading up to RG - this isn't the same player. It's just ridiculous how well he's playing here. Almost no errors at all and the ability to run down basically everything but shots that are out of this world - can't defend that.
