The biggest issue is the extended grunts. There is a huge difference between grunting as you hit the ball, in that small moment of exertion, and continuing to hold the grunt/noise note well after the exertion is over. That stuff is BS, and it needs to stop.

Exactly. The ATP and WTA are always trying to grow the sport, and yet they don't address an issue that is turning people off? Some players are pretty much unwatchable.
Yea, verily. Tennis is turning into Pro Wrestling, and so unnecessarily.. but then, so is the rest of life. ;)

Adding: betcha dollars-to-donuts the histrionics are being encouraged behind the scenes: when tiny
smirks while passing Tsitsi, he *knows* exactly who's got his back.

Nadal-like, Serena-like or Sabalenka-like?
most ridiculous being Azarenka

all of the above should get warnings / fines

horrible for tennis reputation when you have to turn the sound off to watch properly
I like azarenka grunt.
Sounds like she's moaning during you know what

I think it’s obvious Steph needs to practice hitting a knifing slice and to work on blocking the backhand return better. Federer did such a great job with this back in 2017. Miami is obviously a different surface but a guy like Dimitrov was able to carve up Alcaraz with his slice and variety. Stef should give Ljubicic a call.

The penetrating slice is a great shot, and I hope Tsitsipas finds somebody who can help him with it.
What's funny is that it feels like the most natural thing in the world off that side.. once you get it.

That is a funny thing as a recreational hacker myself. Since the backhand slice has always been my comfort shot, back in the day I somehow assumed it would be easy to teach to beginners. Usually not the case!

Stefanos obviously can hit a slice, but it always looks a bit funky and he certainly can't do that classic low penetrating slice that someone like Federer or even Dan Evans mastered.

Risking oversimplification, "out- toward the target, with a *slightly* open racquet face, not downward" often helps, IME; as much as words can help, anyway. At its best it's a great probing / parrying / reset shot.

Ok, if I do go ahead and make a thread, will you admit that Roddick blew Nadal off court from the ground in Dubai 08 and Miami 10 and stop baiting in general?
Make it first lol then maybe we could give Roddick 2-8

Hmmm, something tells me you are one of those guys that wasn't amused by Simeone exaggerating to get Beckham thrown off in that World Cup back in the day (I forget which one, because after a while all the awful England showings start to melt into just one big joke). So why the inconsistency?

Lol no. Don't follow football so the Beckham analogy completely escaped me. I was just pointing out that Alcaraz seemed utterly unrepentant when he overheard Tsitsipas complaining about him to the umpire. He was grinning like a cheshire cat after he passed them by.

Interestingly in the post match interview he mentioned that he has learned to use his smile to deal with difficult moments. Helps defuse stress I guess. I don’t know, I can’t remember exactly how he phrased it.

Among those he should consider for coaching on the backhand slice is a certain German woman. Being a greek god, however, he might have to make sure her husband Andre is Ok with some personal lessons.

Basically it was an example of a player who, while not outright breaking the rules per se, was certainly abusing them and not acting in a sporting manner. And while that happens a lot, smiling about it (and possibly taunting your opponent in the process) isn't a good look.

But he is from the same country as Marc Marquez after all... (if you know, you know)

Indeed lol. Although if you don’t know when exactly the match is due to take place, it’s hard to time it right, so I’ll probably still mess it up.
You can still change it before poll closes. So take a good guess like I do, and when you come to know the time of the match, increase or reduce the hours.
