Kiss of death for Holger engaging in that 34 shot rally early in the breaker; he pretty much was destroyed after that.
I agree, and his passive play was costly. He was tentative on so many big points and it was fatal. He has no 50% strategy between aggression and defense. It's all or nothing and that mindset is why Shapovalov is ranked #123 instead of top 10. But Holger is better than Denis, he'll figure it out... Hopefully.

I've never been that convinced by Becker as a coach. I have a feeling he got more out of the coaching relationship with Djokovic than vice versa. He likes the sound of his own voice too much.

Goran on the other hand ...
I agree: Becker is more a high-profile Personality that gets hired for reasons that might have little to do with coaching.

Well, Djokovic was pretty successful during most of the time with Becker and Rune played well with him as coach too. Based on this it seems hard to construct an argument against Becker as coach.

Even on occasions when the rest of Sascha's game is in the dumps, that backhand has always been gorgeous.
You are impressed, but I can tell it still has some upgrading to do if it wants to reach the level known as
STUNNING.jpg

Zverev defused the Rune bomb with skill and endurance. He is now in his physical prime and can wear almost everybody physically down when his mind stays sharp. Still going so long again might cost him in the end.

Because they have line judges and earn a lot. But whatever. This is certainly small compared to the general dodo impression the French crowds leave every year.
Fair enough. I was sort of implying that they still have it good compared to amateur players, who have to deal with no line judges at all, or even worse mistakes.

But yes, I agree that the annoying French crowds do a whole bunch of silly things, and that is just one of them.

Time for Rune to come out of the cave. He has the tennis, and would love to see him as a serious contender of important titles.
I admit though that the one thing I don't like is Cobratoglou .

He over performed last year on grass getting the choke from Fokina and frankly an impressive Dimi fell apart for him as well (and wow Dimi could be a massive threat to win Wimby this year). Holger's newly hyper aggressive game might work on grass. Grass won't take a lot of stamina.

In general he needs to stop eating pizza and ice cream all the time, ice his bow-legs at changeovers, and generally get in better shape. When he's forced into managing his game to avoid cramping its just not great.

He eats extremely healthy and has recently cut sugar completely out of his diet. And he doesn't cramp, that's something he did a long time ago. His lack of stamina may be due to excessive training.

You actually believe that? Holger and mother lie and lie. Acapulco he was trying to break early in the 2nd set and won a 39 shot rally to get to break point; he was blown up for the rest of the set big time and never really recovered in the 3rd set. And of course he was done after 34 shot rally with Zed early in 4th set TB, and again pretty much got crushed from that point forward. I have Danish tennis friend and I get much of the tidbits they feed to the local media. This whole hyper aggressive game plan helps take the strain off, but his physical issues are worse than ever. Excessive training, yeah right.:sneaky:

You can't be the real and original Meles, who would never post something so dripping with venom. A two-bit imposter. Real Meles, resurrect your charming self.

Cobolli is the reason why he had issues in the 5th set be Zverev, not some physical malfunctioning. How would he have even won the Cobolli match in the first place if he didn’t have the tank to go deep into the 5th? Doing spidey stretch BH winners and ridiculously explosive movement 4 hours deep in the 5th set TB?

His conditioning isn’t there yet at the highest of the highest levels, but I was actually encouraged by his fight in this RG, particularly vs Cobolli and Zverev .

He won against Cobolli because the Italian choked really hard and handed it over to Rune. These 5-setters require endurance at the highest level and I agree, Rune comes apparently still short in this regard.

Holger played 2 four hour matches at RG and seemed physically fine at the end of both. Sure, he was tired but so were his opponents.

People forget that early in his career, Djoker routinely retired from matches because he couldn't hang with the fitter players. Holger has improved his fitness significantly this year. In 2023 he was cramping after just 2 hours.
