The main event. Hope it's as electric as their US Open match. I'm flying a bit blind here as I haven't seen as much of either of these guys as I would like at this event, but I'll say Alcaraz in 5.

So hard to predict, neither actually seem to be in great form. Let’s be honest they played total jobbers today who hit backhands that wouldn’t hold up in 3.5 women’s tennis. We learned nothing from their QF matches other than Tsitsipas and Dimitrov can’t hit a BH to save their life.

This should be a coronation for both of them with Nadal/Djokovic out, and yet I have almost no pulse on how well either are playing. They are sort of just, well, there. Neither have played anyone of note, both had cake draws vs players they should beat in their sleep.

I lean Sinner. His serve/return and weight of shot is a bit more consistent than Carlos, and I feel Alcaraz is the more likely of the two to spray errors and get broken cheaply.

I lean Carlos, I think.

I don’t. I’m actually quite low on his level so far. That stretch vs De Jong still gives me nightmares. Not Frenkie, Jesper. Alcaraz is spraying errors too often for my liking and generally lacks the serve/return solidity Sinner has. Hating his return positioning as well, he is exposing himself to SnV like Medvedev.

He is a better shotmaker but that’s about it.

Last time Djokoraz got prime time during day. Assume they will do the same?
Given that they’re the first half to play and Zverev will be coming off a night match tomorrow night, it’s almost guaranteed they’ll be the day match. RG would be screwing Zverev mightily to make him play night session Wednesday night then day session Friday

I'm more of a form on the day kind of guy in these situations. I do like how it feels pretty unpredictable.

Alcaraz would need to play smart & expose Sinner's movement, footwork & recovery on this court rather than falling in for the trap of ballbashing with the Italian which is exactly what Jannik would be wishing for, as he is the bigger ballstriker here.

Big, big match coming up!! No idea who'll take this but hope they both rise to the occasion and produce an instant classic

This won't be job done either, especially if Zverev makes the final on the other side

Normally I'd favour Alcaraz on clay. But he's still wearing that sleeve and it's hard to choose between those two these days - will it get tough for Carlos if it becomes physical? I'll go with Alcaraz in five anyway. Could be a cracker of a match!

Alcaraz is supposedly better on clay. Yet I can't overlook what happened the only time they played on the surface.

I know it was just a 250, but still. It was a final. A key match for me. Both players wanted to win. Alcaraz was up 7-6 1-0, then Sinner basically won 6-1 6-0. A blood bath.
And Sinner wasn't even the player he is today.

Indian Wells may be a red-herring. It was clear Sinner was injured and tanked. I would take this result with a grain of salt.

Sinner in 4 for me. (The heart wants Alcaraz to win but my instinct says Sinner)

Now I'm almost relieved Zverev is still in the tournament. I wanted him to lose to Griekspoor. But realistically, he is the only one who has a chance to give us an interesting final. Neither Ruud or De Minaur has a chance against Sinner (or Alcaraz). Zverev/Sinner would be the most interesting final, I guess.

Is this their biggest match in the rivalry so far?
Well it's the first time in a slam semi, having previously met in a Wimbledon R16 and a USO QF.

Needless to say, we're waiting for the moment they line up as the 1 and 2 seeds at slams, and can perhaps clash with a big title on the line... (so far, their only final was Umag 22)

Man, is this match huge for a lot of reasons:

1. Sinner is the current player running the hottest streak in tennis. He's 33-2 this year with a dominance ratio approaching 1.5 for the year. That is flat-out insane.
2. The winner of this match likely bags the title. If that's the case, then the slam race between the two will either be 3-1, or 2-2. If I were Alcaraz, I wouldn't want it to be 2-2. That is scary.
3. Their HTH is currently deadlocked at 4-4. The winner takes the lead in the HTH.

Man, talk about an intense matchup. I might need to take the day off of work and buy a 6-pack of beer to watch this. We have two guys peaking at the same time at a very young age. This rivalry will likely end up being a legendary one. And the legendary piece starts on Friday!

That said, I'm taking Sinner in 5. I think that if he can serve lights out, then he'll have the paper-thin edge. HIs return game is also extremely punishing. He's like an octopus with 8 rackets blocking back serves. But this is so hard to call. I gotta pick Sinner in a thriller.

I can't wait!!!!

Carlos is playing well, stop being so paranoid about him my friend. Both guys are in good form headed into the match, exactly what we want to see.

When a semifinal like this one happens, the draw should be reformulated. Sinner and Alcaraz on opposite sides, and draw for the other two players.

This is it right? With the 2 kings bowing out gracefully this is the main event, the match we've all being waiting for. The battle for tennis supremacy. I am expecting an all out war where for better or worse, both guys won't ever be the same after this match. I'll be pulling for Alcaraz as i believe Sinner's hype is a little out of control but may the best player win!
