Djokovic recently won his second grandslam, two years after his first one and now the hype surrounding him is absurd. Never have I seen this much hype. Murray, Berdych and Soderling hype is kind of funny, but saying Djokovic will win Wimbledon? Come on.

Is it all a big joke or something?

Yes, it's all a joke. Ha...............ha..................ha.................ha...............

I believe that he is the player most able to complete a calendar slam. It could be hype, but they all said the same thing about Nadal.

I want to see a player win it all and go undefeated for the year LOL

Funny thread. Hopefully the OP realises that Djokovic is the real deal and not overrated. His results have proven that. The complete package.

SIGH ... here goes ...

Wins Aussie Open (beats Fed): "Well, he didn't have to beat Nadal"
Wins Dubai (beats Fed again) : "Still hasn't beaten Nadal in a final"
Wins Indian Wells (beats Fed/Nadal): "Fed had him beat and Nadal served poorly"
Wins Miami (beats Nadal): "He'll never beat Nadal on clay"
Wins Madrid (beats Nadal): "The clay is fast. Wait until Rome and the French"
Wins Rome (beats Nadal): "Nadal has lost only 1 match in Paris"
Loses in Paris: Roger plays a great match. Too good that day.
Wins Wimbledon (beats Nadal): Finally gets #1.

Give the man some credit! He's worked his *** off, and is reaping the benefits of that hard work. Nadal worked to make his serve better, and he deserved his Wimbledon and US Open titles because of that. Djokovic deserves the same. I can't say whether he will win the US Open (Del Potro is getting better and better), but Novak only has a QF in Canada and a SF in Cincy to defend. If some other players would work as hard, their results might improve as well, though probably not as much. I'm a firm believer in giving props where are due, and I believe Novak has earned his. Peace.

Just selected the most funny or most pertinent ones here. :)

It's the same as in 2008, but don't worry, the hype will die soon enough.

Me too. I would not be surprised if this year turned out like 2008 (Nadal wins RG and W and Fed wins USO).

Yeah yeah. You're right... ooops!

No doubt about that. Fedal finals at FO and Wimbledon this year would make Tsonga's comments look very funny....

Haha, IIRC the comment by Tsonga in question was when he said that Fedal reign over tennis was over (after the AO) or something like it...

Well, Fedal indeed made one final at the FO, but I think Tsonga backed up his words with his performance in Wimbledon and entering in GS history by being the only one so far to beat Federer in a GS match when Fed had a 2 x0 set lead.

I guess no one is totally wrong and everyone has some merit here.

Big 2 could always win RG, Wimbledon and AO or USO all within short space of time. I doubt Djokovic will ever beat Rafa at RG/Wim , he couldn't even beat Rafa at US Open. So its not very convincing , same as 2008 so far.

And of course, we couldn't forget, the prophet, the one that will always in so many TT reincarnations announce the event that we all have been waiting for, the RAFA SLAM, at least 8 MONTHS before it actually happens!!! :)

Ladies and gentleman, here is: Nadal_Slam_King or NadalBullz or Bullzilla or... whatever.
You never fail to amaze me, dude. :)
Though this one is not as lolworth as the many other remarks, I give you only 2 Martina Hingis with this one.

Djokovic is an excellent player, but is still several levels below Nadal. I'm sure he'll win a few more slams here and there, but if Nadal stays fit and JMDP returns to his pre-injury level, I'd back those two against him every time.

Djoko won the AO convincingly, but to be honest he didn't have much to beat in the final... Murray's performance was on a par with Dinara Safina's in the womens final in '09.

Unfortunately, Del Potro hasn't made much noise besides winning Estoril, which is only a 250 event.

He managed to take one set away from Djoko and Nadal on their FO and Wimbledon encounters, but apart from that there is nothing really substantial to justify his hype this year.

I initially thought Del Po would be Nadal's big rival in the future too, but I changed my mind after following closely Djoko's fantastic campaign this year.

I think there will be some significant pressure on Del Po to perform starting this summer HC season, and if he doesn't deliver, then I'm afraid his great run there will be considered an isolated event. It's very unfortunate that he lost nearly a full season with a pulse injury. If he can't be a consistent player, he is no better than many journeyman we have seen in the game.

Needless to say, so far Djoko is looking much more like the real deal than any other player.
And If I'm not mistaken, I think Del Potro has never beaten Djokovic, right? Though if there is one thing I learned with all the gibberish being spit over here, it's to never say never, or our words may come back at our own mouths.

Del Potro has alot of hype but he hasnt beaten any of the top 4 since his comeback. And even in his 2009 career best year to date he won no event bigger than a 500 title other than the U.S Open, not even a Masters. And in that U.S Open final he was a bit lucky Federer lost focus when he had break points to go up 2 breaks in the 2nd set and all kind of other chances, otherwise it would have been a straight setter for Federer.

Hype?

It's only hype to Nadal fans, and that's only because they cant believe his success.

What success? Only 1 title bigger than a 500 event. Biggest success in his comeback being a title win over Verdasco in the final (lol). I actually like Del Potro, I definitely root for him more than Federer or Murray and would like to see him establish himself as even more of a top player, but it hasnt happened yet.

Same, im not getting why his name is thrown around so much, 09? SURE but he hasn't shown that level since. Until he does, it's hype right now. He's not about to beat Nadal or Djokovic any time soon.

LOL. Buddy you don't recognize greatness when you see it.

Del Potro is the only one right now with the potential to be a long term rival to Djoker.

If he's injury free this year, I think he will beat Djoker a few times. By 2012,2013 it will be a totally different story..

Based on what man? 2009? Trust me I LIKE Delpo, i've never seen anything like the way the ball was crushed in USO 2009. But he is not going to beat Novak OR Nadal in a best of five anytime soon. He's been Rafa's puppet this year but he's supposed to beat Nole? NO ONE is going to beat Nole for a while. The guy's fitness sucks.

Incorrect. Nole is in Nadal's head, that is one reason why he looks invincible.

The finals have been easier for Novak than the earlier rounds, because he faces Nadal there.

Murray, Fed, Belluci, Ferrer stretched Nole on clay. Tsonga, Baggy, Tomic stretch Nole on grass.

Delpo's fitness was not quite there in the F.O. But rest assured, if these 2 meet at the UsOpen, Delpo will prevail. I haven't seen a more clutch server since Sampras. Delpo will also get better still, with serve, movement and groundies. - as he gets stronger. Remember he's only 22, and missed 1.25 yrs with injury..

Del Potro will not have a better career than Djoker.

Write it down, bookmark it, memorize it.

Agreed. I'm surprised that people don't recognize greatness when they see it.

Djokovic's game is based on movement. He does a ridiculous amount of running even against qualifiers in Round 1. With time the movement, intensity will fade. As good as Djokovic's defense is, he does not have a naturally aggressive game (as Federer's for ex) - so he can't expect to have a prime of 3-5 yrs or break Federer's slam record.

Del Potro is a different story. He has enough weapons. He is also mentally tougher than Djokovic.

I think after what Djokovic has done in 2011, this matter should be put to bed. Djokovic is clearly tougher than Del Potro.

If anyone has to be worried about "fading" it is Nadal. No way he can keep up that physical intensity and that unbelievable grinding he does into his late 20s. He needs to adjust his game or risk getting seriously injured which further decreases his chances of winning matches. And the sad thing is that it is his physical game that wins him matches.

Del Potro has always been Djokovic's puppet too. Except for one match the perennial #3 underachieving enigmatic Djokovic, not even the current one.

And on what planet was their FO match close. The set Del Potro won Djokovic played one bad serve game and ended up losing the set. Even in that set Del Potro was having to fight hard to hold serve while Djokovic did easily other than that 1 game. The 3 sets Djokovic won were all quite easy.

Del Potro's best chance for a top 4 win is Murray. Lets see him beat Murray and then see where he goes from there, that is clearly the starting point to being a real threat again though.

In the months after OP made this thread:

2 slams (Wimbledon, U.S. Open)
5 consecutive Masters (Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, Montreal)
2 other titles (Dubai & Belgrade)

I wholeheartedly agree. This Djokovic hype is ridiculous. Call me when he does something worth talking about.

lol. the funniest thread ever. I had such a good time reading all of this garbage.

Oops, he won W. Oops he won the USO. OOPS. How is it possible? We need that song from Britney "Oooooooops I did it again"

How many "mindless ball bashers" have beaten both Fed and Nadal to win a Slam? How many people have done that, period? Djoke and Del Potro, and Delpo is a lot stronger mentally than that choking pusher Murray.

Wait a minute, let's not spin it buddy.

The hype is not about him being a contender in winning majors. The hype is when all of the sudden Federer-Nadal era is over, that he is the new king of tennis, That he can beat Nadal in Paris....

So dont twist the hype and present it like it's so natural
So does this mean "don't believe the hype" has been a lie all these years?????

I love this site. It has a history which makes it so much more fun.

I wish politicians could be checked like this.
