Rinderknech (2 sets up) injures himself and retires after kicking an advertising sign

Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech was 2 sets up in the 2nd round of the French Open against Tomas Etcheverry. He was forced to retire at the end of the 4th set after injuring his own big toe by tapping into an advertising sign fixed to the courtside wall. (3-6, 7-6, 6-1, 5-0)

  One of the dumbest retirement reasons I've ever seen. Especially for someone who'd never made a deep run in a Grand Slam. He is 2 sets up against a seeded player. Biggest opportunity of his life in front of his home crowd. And this happens.

The kick didn't seem too hard

I expected one hell of a kick, but that looked not more than a hard caress... bad luck Arthur... :(

There purposely may have been something sharp in the advert to injure anyone who touches/kicks it; courtesy of the promoters.

Etcheverreys luck evening out after the close loss in the lyon final. This is ridiculous. Novak fans complaining about the us open 2020 default should.accept that at least he wasnt a game from.winning when he lost control of himself.

He did it today :-D Only he belted his bench numerous times without hurting himself, while Rinderknech gave one little toe tap and hurt himself, because Andrey is a proper ninja and knows how to kick properly.
Plenty of experience, too

To be fair, it looked like Etcheverry had the complete momentum back in this match and was most likely going to win this match in 5 Sets.

The harmless kick sort of ended things prematurely.

This guy decided it was a great idea to talk trash before his match with Fritz, not too bright.

What a tool Rinderknech is... Taylor didn't "cry" in Paris last year, he never complained once about the crowd while the match was on, he only celebrated like a boss by silencing them once it was over.

I am glad to see that apparently he roasted Arthur at the net yesterday, this makes me respect Fritz more.

FYI, the original comment, in French, isn't really anything to get riled up about. But regardless, this is your usual tennis storm-in-a-teacup incident. Neither overstepped any boundaries imo.

Yea I don't get it. You are a journeyman playing against a player who has been an established top 10 player for years and you decide to give him an extra motivation to beat you. Not very bright.
