More sadness from the world of entertainment...the sexiest voice of her era has passed due to a stroke a month shy of turning 90.

All class with a nice bit of edge to her...let's all put our lips together and blow!

What can I say?
Unique woman
Some others, very few though, may have been more rounded actresses.
But she will remain for ever my Special One
A monument to class and sex appeal

I remember seeing her 30 years ago in Mitchell's restaurant on a summer eve in Chicago. I happened to look up from our booth, and she was 2 or 3 booths away casually eating with someone. I remember thinking but not saying out loud "That's Lauren Bacall!"

The coolest part was that no one was making any fuss about it, and she seemed to enjoy that. No sunglasses or head scarf to hide herself, no autograph hounds… just a relaxed meal like everyone else there.

I agree, very classy. We could use more like her.

Nice memory that, cool.

I can't recall which film it was, but it featured Ms. Bacall singing a song. Common practice back then when the actress couldn't sing was to have her lip-synch to somebody else singing. Because of her unusually husky voice, the person they got to sing for her was a man.

Shortly after Bogart's death in 1957, Bacall had a relationship with singer and actor Frank Sinatra. She told Robert Osborne, of Turner Classic Movies (TCM), in an interview, that she had ended the romance. However, in her autobiography, she wrote that Sinatra abruptly ended the relationship, having become angry that the story of his proposal to Bacall had reached the press.

Sinatra !

Seems she had a good chance to win an Oscar (supporting actress) for The Mirror has Two Faces in 1996. But it went to The English Patient.

She had a second marriage but split due to the guy's alcoholism. Sinatra was also iirc an alcoholic in his later years.

She had the whole package- beauty, brains, class, dignity, wit and was a TRUE star, not like all the trashy reality contestants we see so much of nowadays. At least she's now back in the arms of her one true love and her films and the legacy she left behind will live forever. RIP Lauren- you were one of a kind.

Link failed...sorry! But it's that old chestnut "Key Largo" from one-hit wonder Bertie Higgins.

"Just like Bogie and Bacall, we had it all..."

If I should make it to heaven, I hope there's a 24-hour big screen cinema playing their films from time to time.
