That's a very, very Djokovic like performance from Sinner. Not just the style of game, but his way to deal with an hostile crowd, he didn't seem amused at all by Moutet's clownery or the crowd, almost got riled up by it, leading him to get better and better as the match went on.

Think it's the Sinner first serve determining how far he advances.....wouldn't be surprised with either result in the QF's, but I expect it will be Sinner and Alcaraz in the bottom half of the draw. Alcaraz is looking pretty good to me as well.

Sinner beat Eubanks (who doesn't win any matches since Wim), a semi-retired player (Gasquet), an exhausted opponent (Kotov) and had by far the easiest 4th round with Moutet. Congratulations but it doesn't tell us anything so far. It's as weak if not weaker than his Wimbledon cakewalk last year until the semis. The difference of level will be brutal in the semi and final.

What does a neutral fan think about it?

Very good stuff!

On the other side, Djoko and Carlos will have really good preparation for final 4!

Watching the highlights back again Sinner really stepped here after set 1 and changed his tactics. His tennis IQ is phenomenal and Moutet just couldn’t live with his power hitting and pattern of play after set 1.

I usually enjoy your comments because you also try to analyse games. At least this way one understands sometimes something.

Moutet really snuck a great performance into the first set and half, trying everything in his book to unsettle and counter Sinner and he was painting quite a few lines. However one can redline only for so long…

I believe if Sinner wants to win RG he needs to rewatch his match against Alcaraz at IW. Use his power to his advantage and dictate. Serve a high percentage and not feed into Alcaraz deploying drop shots (which he did and worked). Really looking forward to their SF. I trust Cahill will come up with new tactics should they meet

I agree. This is why sinner can’t be ruled out anywhere. He’s the complete package, his IQ is great and has a great coach that can help solve problems he faces.

Alcaraz will certainly not want to play him and prefer anyone else. We will see what happens.

Wasn't able to watch live, but saw a fair bit of the replay. I'm sorry the hero of the 2024 FO is now out of the tournament, but at least he was eliminated by a class act like Sinner.

I'm glad a few people got to take a nice long look at Moutet, and appreciate what he brings to the game. The guy is never dull, and that is a huge benefit to a sport chock full of dull players

Also, I see that Moutet was called for a foot fault, which is really perfect. The only other player I've seen called for them (multiple) recent is the Queen of tennis Camila Giorgi (yes, she is still the Queen, as she is still alive), so he is in good company. If anyone knows other players famous for foot faulting, let me know because I should probably root for them, too.

Oh wait, Technifibre, check that.
Thought it seemed odd... from personal experience (...), babs snap pretty easily... Well, I guess a great endorsement for techni, in a weird kind of way...
Did you watch Moutet's match against Shevchenko? The Russian uses a Pure Strike (paint job, anyway), and when he went for a full on smash, the racquet simply separated into two pieces right above the handle. The head hoop stayed completely intact, which I thought was interesting and impressive.

I almoast like Moutet now
Welcome aboard. So many people focus on his behavior (which I honestly don't see a problem with, as 95% of it is directed at himself), but his tennis is actually tremendously fun to watch. His game isn't just unconventional, it's really smart and interesting. Half the time he is making some crazy shot that you can see as a spectator on TV as a possibility given the way the point is unfolding, but witch most other players still never go for. What he did to Jarry was just a sight to behold.

I mean, I would say Roland Garros itself is famous for foot faulting... I'm pretty sure that on average there are more foot faults called in this tournament than in the rest of the season combined...

As for players, Fognini is the undisputed king. He must have been called for more than 50 of them over the years, maybe even triple digits, with plenty coming in huge spots.

Although I guess no foot fault has ever been bigger than Serena's...

BUT, Moutet definitely earns the distinction as the only one I've ever seen to foot fault on an underarm serve... Of course, he made a huge fuss, going on and on and on, claiming the umpire didn't know the rule and so forth. And of course, the replay then showed it was an obvious foot fault. :-D

Given the way the referees allow the players to throw the ball in in Serie A, somehow I'm not surprised Fognini has this tendency.
