Road to Injury Recovery

So if you guys followed my other thread, I broke my ankle during my first match of the year competing for RIT. Today, after 6.5 weeks, the doctor said that I could finally get back to stationary hitting. I hit today for about 20 minutes with one of my teammates and it went pretty well. My footwork is obviously not there, but the muscle memory is definitely still there. It felt good to finally hit after a month and a half. We will just have to see how the next few weeks go! I want to be in tip top shape for the summer!

Dude, I hope you're rehab goes well and ends soon. It sounds like you're almost there. I had ACL surgery on my left knee last May('11) and was able to play with zero restrictions for the first time in mid December. Very long rehab.

Get as much cardio and lifting in as possible while you are still rehabbing. Those activities obviously help athletes already, but getting the rest of your body ready for tennis while you are still waiting on your ankle to heal, will go a long way.

Good luck!

Thanks. I have been going at rehab for about 2 weeks now. The first week was only range of motion, but now it is athletic training. Doing the bike and elliptical and other things at the trainers. I have also been back in the gym for the past two weeks. I am only doing upper body though. I feel like a 'bro.'

Today I am "practicing" with the team at 5. Will update after.
