So I'm off work today and watching a game show channel and to my delight Rod Laver turned up on To Tell The Truth....the announced it as right after he won his first CYGS. I know a fair amount about Laver but I never knew he was on this show...suffice to say the panel all correctly picked him, and it was pretty obvious who he was when the other 2 dudes pretending to be him admitted they didn't know who Helen Wills Moody was....it was definitely fun to see him on tape off the tennis court.

Sadly, I suspect if any of today's tennis greats were to make an appearance on that show they would probably get away with not knowing who Helen Wills Moody was! ;)

It would be very cool to see that show.

It was actually really awesome. I was chilling on the coach not even really paying attention until I heard them announce Rod Laver. I felt like a nerd I picked him right off having seen photos...but it was cool hearing him talking about tennis of his day.

The panel was a riot...they kept asking him about clothing controversy at Wimbledon, however they also asked about little mo, the 2 Pancho's, Wills Moody...one panelist even knew Laver was born in 1938 and asked about Budge's grand slam and drawing the comparison, and irony, between Budge and Laver. When they unmasked the real Rod, Rod also discussed he was about to go on a world series tour of matches, one in which Pancho was not taking part in. The tennis nerd in me had a fun time watching even though I picked him off right away.
