Roddick #1 in the World ever again?

Andy Roddick has not come close to regaining his #1 ranking in awhile. In fact he hasnt even won a grand slam in awhile. I am starting to worry that he may never regain the #1 ranking he once held. Do you think Andy Roddick will ever be ranked #1 in the World again?

i can't imagine it. there are too many other great players right now for him to have any real chance. he has talent, but that seems to be about it. not enough to ever pass players like fed, rafa, or djoko to get to number 1.

Roddick has many diverse talents. It is all a matter of believing in himself since all the skills are there. Everyone knows that.

Ummmm no. Many aspects of Roddick's game are not that impressive. He is living proof that the serve is still far and away the most important shot in tennis. The skills are NOT there. A fact that Fed, Nadal, Murray, Gasquet, and countless others have shown us over the past few years.

I am the biggest Roddick fan/supporter/defender around. But he needs alot more than belief to get back to #1. He needs an act of God.

you're just starting to worry??? you should have been worried two years ago! the guy's never gonna be in the top 3 again. and it won't be long before he's out of the top 10.

Lets look at his other skills:

Forehand-outstanding. One of the best in the game.
Backhand-improved alot, was decent before, now even better.
Net play-improved alot, shaky before, now more solid.
Movement-when he is fit he moves pretty well.
Return of serve-he fights hard and gets alot of returns back I find.
Mental game-very strong, a good fighter

He does have diverse enough skills. He has a great forehand, and is pretty good at everything.

Judging from the last match he played against Federer, it's possible. But then judging from 1/25/2007 it's also possible for Federer to never lose a match for the rest of his life.

Well federerfanatic, to answer the question I honestly don't see it ever happening again. He barely held on to it in 2003 when Fed got going. Roddick has now 3 people to worry about even on his best days. Joker clearly has shown he's better, Nadal gave him a beatdown in dry desert air in Indian Wells and we already know about the well documented massacres given by Fed on every surface outside of clay.

Before Nadal emerged I thought he had a shot, but once Nadal got going I had a feeling that it wasn't going to happen, now with Joker coming around it's a definite no no. I give the guy credit for trying and throwing all his tennis ability on the court but he just simply doesn't have enough to do it. He can look back with no regrets (outside of Wimby 2007 vs Gasquet), that's for sure. Unlike some screw loose Russian.

Right? I would've been worried at the end of 2003. Now with Fed, Rafa and Joker setting up shop in the top 3 Roddick has zero chance of even being in the top 3. As for top 10, he's got it till he's 28-29. Dude, Robredo is in the top ten and he doesn't really have any serious weapons. Roddick should be happy to even be top 5 now. He should be through the roof if he stays top 10 for the rest of his career.

Put down the crack pipe and slowly back away !!!!

Seriously, except for the last point (mental game), you're way way off. Except for that and his serve, Andy doesn't have a top-20 anything.

You can see when he played the top 3 players this year, he looked considerably slower than them, completely void of ideas on the court during rallies and lastly being dragged on the court like a dog. Only the serve saved him from complete humiliation, except in Australia.

Here's an idea, how about a poll that asks in which does Roddick have a better chance in getting, another slam or the number one ranking?

I bet one the 3 votes for Roddick was by Rodditha. I didn't even look but I'm sure he put in a vote. Oh wait, I can only imagine Drakulie's post in here. Roddick can regain the number one ranking if he switches to a larger frame. Call it a hunch.

While I don't think that he's quite as horrible as everyone else, I'm pretty sure that I'll grow wings and fly before Roddick is #1 again.

Roddick is so horrible that he's won 23 tournaments and $13 million by age 25, been a Davis Cup star, and been in the top 10 five straight years.

I think he does have nice top 20 strokes, he just doesnt know how and when use them. The only thing he may need to change is his mind and game plan and strategies. However this may not be easy since the way he plays is what put him where he is. Maybe he should just stop drinking so much coffee ;)

Going fat and missing big events is his major talent.:)

but seriosly...i dont believe he is ever going to be n1 again... although he will keep on for a few years in the top. just my guess...

I think the top three do these thing better than Roddick.

If Fed and Roddick played on clay, I'd say the massacre would be WAY worse. It could be a triple bagel if Fed is on.

Nadal is starting to show signs of weakness and Djoker isn't Fed, i don't see why Roddick wouldn't take that 2 pos. Roddick dosen't play enough big tourneys, he is always out when the European MS starts (Madrid, Monte-Carlo, Hambourg, Rome, FO). That is making so much points.

I have boatloads of respect for Roddick. The guy tries his hardest with his (relative to a lot of his peers) given talent, he's a good for the sport, an excellent media personality and does a lot of charity work. But the fact of the matter is that it is very, very unlikely he will be number 1 again. Also what's this about "his" #1 ranking? He held it for a mere 13 weeks. The question should be "will Roddick ever take Federer's #1 ranking?"

Yeah he could make like 10 more ranking points if he played during the clay-court swing.

Because he has 1st or 2nd round losses in those clay events every single time. That's why.

Those events give so much points, that's true. Roddick may collect 20 points next year! :D

Its funny though if you think about where roddick would be right now if federer wasnt as good as he is now. Roddick arguably would have two us open titles, an aussie open title, 2 wimbledon titles, which would put him up there at number 1 at least more than once. There would also be more kids playing tennis these days trying to emulate his game.

That means you would be driving by the courts full of kids flapping their arms and legs spasticallly playing with ugly strokes and no volleys and biatch and whine like 5 year old girls? That is funny.

That sums it up nicely.
