A. Rod definitely played great and is showing that he is still a contender.

It was pretty painful to see him right after he lost, toss his racket down and stare at the ground. :(

Could Mac and the other guy be more for Fed

Gezzzzz what happened to rooting on the American...........I would have thought Andy was loosing 6-0,6-0.........finally Mac came around.....

Just as I thought the guy has changed he goes and interrupts Federer during his speech in front of millions of people.

Classless pr*ck if you ask me.

I had a feeling the sun would bite him in the butt the way the match kept going on and having to be always serving to stay alive.

Here's hoping to him winning the US Open.

And Ted Robinson, you could almost hear him trying to make Roddick screw up thinking if he talks enough about his serve breaking it would come true.

I hope he really adds another slam to his collection he deserved more today.

I also like the way he kept it together after the match cos that must have HURT to lose that match.

Perhaps now some people on this forum will understand why some of us remained Andy Roddick fans for all these years, despite the inexplicable losses to low ranked players, the on-court temper tantrums, and the soft forehand. Some of us have always known about Andy's tennis loving fighting heart and we knew he had matches like this still left to play in his career.

Pretty good for a no talent player who is nothing but a serve.

Thank you, Fee. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm really proud of Andy, particularly for his tenacity after frittering away that second set. I do think he qualitatively played the better match today, and yet he came out on the losing end again. I feel bad for him, but he obviously deserves a ton of respect.

Well said and well said. And the comments from others above, too.

I have enormous respect for Roddick after this match and his semifinal against Murray. He worked hard to retool and remake his game, and it showed. I hope he wins another slam soon -- he deserves to.

Huge credit also to Larry Stefanki. What a coach!

From one of the people that really despise Roddick, I must say he has earned a lot of respect from me (not that it matters to him). He played very well and balanced, his demeanor was so unexpectedly composed from him and his fight was very admirable. Like McEnroe said, this was one of those matches it would be a shame that somebody has to lose. If Roddick maintains this composure and play, I might cheer for him the next time he plays (not that it matters to him).

I've always had a love hate thing going on with roddick. I admire him so much for his hard work and determination, and other times I just want to smack him with his on court behavior. Of course at times I find it funny as well, but that's besides the point. However, roddick has certainly matured and today he took risks imo and really fought hard. I think a little credit should go to stefanki as well.

I agree about Stefanki. I feel like Roddick's tamer demeanor is part of Stefanki's design....that way Roddick can concentrate on playing good tennis. The old Roddick was operating on a lot of emotions, his playing style made it feel like he had to work hard for every point and that's why he gets these emotional outburts, like there is a conspiracy against him. Today, Federer faced a different person across the net.

Hope that Roddick has a great hard court season - I think he is playing the bet he has ever played. A-Rod and Stefanki are a great team.

It was pretty sad to see him so devastated after the loss but I hope he wakes up tomorrow and sees what potential he has over the coming months.

I'm pretty sure that Larry will help Roddick realize it's a work in progress. If they continue to work ahead, it can only mean great things for Roddick.

Stefanki's coaching

Just getting Roddick to camp on the baseline, rather than 10 feet behind it, is a huge feat. And it's made a big, big difference in his game.

totally agreed! He was playing like a pusher... not a long time ago...
He was serving like.. 130mph and then he used to stand about 7-10 feets behind the baseline.

That's a good point about getting him to stay on the baseline. He'll never have the ball control that a Murray or Fed will, but he needs to have confidence in his ability to take the ball on the rise.

I don't think Stefanki is solely responsible for all the improvements in Andy's game. Connors and his brother were both getting him to work on that backhand, esp. up the line. Still, Stefanki has clearly helped him get more confidence in that shot, and it's showing.

The grass really helps Andy's game, too. His backhand is pretty flat already, so it really scoots through the grass when he wants it to. I still don't know if it's good enough to stand up to Murray and Fed on hardcourts, though.

I honestly think he was kidding and it just came across wrong since he looked so dead serious. Probably couldn't muster a smile on his face after such a loss...

He had a twinkle in his eye. It was clearly just a bit of ribbing towards Roger. I find it pretty amazing what some people take personal offense to. Roddick was a great sport in his on-court post-match interview; it is almost hard to conceive of just how much frustration and sadness must be lurking inside the man after coming so close so many times to achieving his dreams, this time closer than ever, and still being thwarted once more, but even still he didn't complain a second, spoke kindly to the audience, and brought some of his classic light-hearted humor to the fore (both in the "Sorry Pete, I tried to hold him off" line and "But you already had five!").

Roddick deserved to win today. Theres no doubt about it. I have lost all admiration for Federer the way he was talking after the match, "ohh, im federer im always lucky and am a ***"

Roddick rules.

isn't that a compliment towards the way roddick played, when roger said he was lucky to win?

Ummmm ... with all due respect to Roddick and his fans (and respect is indeed due), he lost! Therefor, Roddick is not THE man; FEDERER IS THE MAN!

The dude was a freight train today -- I was rooting as hard for Roddick as the US team again Brazil last weekend. This was a tough loss, but I hope A-Rod keeps this level up -- it was really pretty amazing!

Sounds like you're the one who doesn't get it; unless, of course, you are the type of guy who goes around proclaiming "I'm the man!" after you suffer a loss. Are you familiar with the expression and what it means?

"Roddick's the man he's always been the man?"

Aside from your obvious aversion to composing a complete sentence, that remark is just plain stupid. But then again, that may describe you ... just plain stupid (?). Roddick's won ONE GS title. ONE! Sorry pal, but that hardly puts him in the running for the title of THE Man!
