Roddick still eats a lot of fast food

HAHA, I ate a McDonald's trio 2 hours before a swimming meet. I clocked my personal best in both the 50m and 100m freestyle which got me into the finals where I claimed second place. I dont' know if the McDonald's had anything to do with it, but it certainly didn't slow me down.

I will suggest to Roddick to try swimming instead.

Some tennis players will never see the light, most will never party, have fun, eat good food, smoke, drink, etc etc. Alot more to life than tennis. LOL.

Must of got lucky.. Usally anything greasy will slow me down in a match, especially right before a match. The night before would be excuses..

On Wertheim's column this week, there was this related bit of info:

From a reader who requested his name be withheld: "I volunteered as a player escort at the Indy tournament again this year (ohh, stories to tell), and when Roddick got off the court hungry at midnight on Friday, he weighed his options out loud. Unfortunately I believe he decided on the Taco Hell location still open downtown, no matter how we vols tried to dissuade him, knowing ourselves the sorry fare trotted out there."

So Roddick finishes his match after midnight, and chooses to go to Taco Bell rather than try to get someone to cook something decent for him late at night. I travel a lot on business and have had similar late night delimmas. Sometimes you just want a quick taco or burrito to fill your stomach so you can go to bed. Unfortunately, he probably got some sour cream that had been left out too long and got an upset stomach. It's happened to me also. BFD. All it meant was that he wasn't feeling 100%, but he was still good enough to compete on the court. Credit should go to Dancevic, who just played well. No major freakin' crisis here... and no need to take pot shots at Roddick's fitness (which is superb, I've seen him in person up close multiple times and his is ripped) or his usual diet (one late night of fast food doesn't mean he eats it "a lot").

In the town where we have a tourney, Roddick arrived late on Sunday night by private plane after winning in the finals. He was going to Taco Bell but the guy with him recommended he come to my bar. this was around 2:00 and we opened the kitchen up for him. yea, he eats some fast food late at night. try finding something else at that time.

do i think this was the problem? No. i've had a study by Dr. Mike Bergeron who specializes in hydration. I suffer from ability to finish in EXTREME heat because my body uses too much energy and my strokes aren't efficient, think Roddick vs. Federer. The heat got him. some people don't handle it as well and as the guy said earlier, muscle works against you as it makes your body less efficient in extreme heat. Add inefficient, tight strokes and that's what happens to him. to combat this, drink Gatorade with water and try to eat crackers with honey at changeovers.

also, at tournaments where you play a long time in the heat, a good meal the night before is pizza and beer. this refills carbs and salt that you need. Think like a runner.

Lol it's amusing how your sentence stated Roddick flew in by private jet then he wanted to go to Taco Bell. Don't they have food in the hotel where he was staying or was it one of those with hourly rates? Or maybe wait until the morning and find something decent.

So you're saying that late night hotel food is better than a place like Taco Bell? I travel a lot, and from my experience, that isn't usually the case with room service. It's not like the best cook staff are working the 2:00 AM shift at the Hilton, and the hotel meals I've gotten at that time were no better than fast food... just more expensive.

I think raspell38120 makes a good point regarding the heat and hydration. Roddick seems to have done well in the heat in the past (5 setters in Australia), but he may have depleted himself in Indy this time... and Taco Bell probably wasn't the best way to refuel.

For goodness sake...he's Andy Roddick! He's got more than just pocket change. If he'd wanted something healthy and appropriate to eat, all he had to do was stop by a grocery store. Instead he chose junk, and he paid the price the next day. A very irresponsible decision on his part, and I'll say it again, a professional should know better.

Well just check with your hotel and see if they could cook something fresh or healthier for you.I am sure he doesn't stay at those ****ty hotels(not implying that you do). Or yeah, go to a grocery store. Roddick going to Taco Bell was like slicing his backhand and rushing the net against Federer. Bad, bad, bad....

The hotel he was staying at was a Doubletree, formerly a Hilton. At a little past 2 in the morning on a Sunday night maybe they didn't have room service or maybe since it was his first night, he wasn't sure. Also, keep in mind, HE WAS HUNGRY! he wanted food fast! Frankly, i think people are making too much of this. If you don't think players it bad food sometimes, you're dead wrong. also, in this case he was coming in on Sunday night but probably didn't play till Tuesday as he was the No. 1 seed.
