Roddick the progenitor of next-gen technique?

I was just watching a highlight reel of Wawrinka backhands, and several were against Roddick.
Roddick seems to have next-gen groundstroke style before next-gen even existed?
On his forehand he points the tip of racquet towards the net much like Kyrgios.
On the backhand he has the abbreviated take-back like so many of the next-gen players.
