thats right i said it. i really think he has a serious chance, after watching the first set against federer at the tms, he looks like he has what it takes.

man I don't believe you. Did you see the first set that Nalbandian played against Federer? It's just one set in the round robin stage of a tournament; a match that Federer can afford to lose and still win the tournament. Suddenly you think Roddick could beat Federer at Wimbledon!!? Remember Roddick couldn't even beat Murray at Wimby this year.

He has a good chance for both like usually and now that he has his game back in gear he should do very good. But I don't think he will win them. Federer is still the wall stands between Roddick and Wimbledon and Roddick and another Usopen title (actually Federer's the wall for him in every GS, imo).

Best of 3 is a different scenario from winning 3/5 in a slam, and Roddick would still be hard pressed to do that against Roger. btw, lol at how 1 match can incite such extreme reactions.

i think roddick will improve on this years result, still don't think he can take him out over 5 sets r on grass, think if he faces him in 3 sets on hard is his best...

Don't want to disappoint you, go back to look at 2004 Wimbledon final against Federer, Roddick played much better in the first set there.

Is everyone forgettin the fact that the rain delay gave fed the chance 2 regroup...
Don't know what you are trying to say. Are you saying Federer wouldn't win if it has rained that day? It doesn't make sense if you look at their head-to-head record.

All I am saying is Roddick was playing better in that first set than at any other time against Federer. People who are in awe how well Roddick is playing right now should go back to look at that match to remind themselves.

C i think ur point is null... My point wasn't that roddick would win but there is no doubt that after the rain delay they both came out different and fed took instant control... Why would they look at a match from 2 years ago 2 remind them of whats gonna happen in the future???

I am not predicting future of Federer vs Roddick. I am talking about Roddick's level of play. Regardless how well he is playing right now (People sounded like he is playing the best he ever played), he never played better than the first set he played against Federer at Wimbledon 2004.

It's mild compared to what Roddick supporters were saying shortly after Roddick's first Wimbledon final lose to Federer. At that time, 2003/2004 I think, they were saying how Federer's game had 'plateaued', how he wasn't going to improve much more, how THEY COULDN'T SEE what areas remained for Federer to improve in and how Roddick was going to improve this, that and the other. In short Federer was going to be Roddick's drum.

Keep dreaming! Wait, that could happen! Roddick just need that Federer's not playing, have the best draw ever, the USTA put a faster court, and some fans yelling OUT! in each point and so forth...

I hope so. He deserves to win a few more Slams.

Unfortunately, Federer has the edge in a best of 5 set match. We've seen that Roddick at his absolute best can shut Federer out, but it's impossible for Roddick to keep that level up. 3 MATCH POINTS. 3 friggin' match points, one of which was on his serve. Guess what - he missed the first serve. He choked on a couple of points and that was all it took for Federer to take charge.

So I think we'll see Roddick beat Federer at a best of 3 tournament eventually, but not at a Slam. Federer would have to be injured or sick for that to happen. Or...he'd have to be older, and not quite as good.

He didn't start showing this improvement until the US Open this year. By the next year of grand slams he'll be ranked #2 in the world also.

theres no way he'll win wimbledon. He has a closer chance at winning the US open as long as he continues improving. But then again, federer is unbeatable on grass, and is pretty much dominating on hardcourts too.

See, I despise these "off the top" comments based on one lousy match. There are A LOT of very good players out there. So anything could happen.

It's a possibility, he did make it to the final this year. He has a shot to win either Wimby or the US Open. Fed can't win everything. The law of averages will go against him, one of these years he's gonna slip up. Now I await 10 posts from Fedtrolls ripping me for that blasphemous statement against the anti-christ Fed.

well heres one more +:

i think roddick is gonna have a great year next year.

for now, all we can do is speculate and give our individual opinions on what we guess could happen, so ill do just that:

wimbledon - depending on draw, rod vs final, i think fed will take it though.

other 3 set final tourney along the year - roddick beat fed second time in history

us open - dep on draw - rod beats fed in final, to seal off his best year since his drought, as #2.

and if connors really keeps progressing as he did between us open and TMC with roddick, he might have a shot at AO, esp since marat is playing weirdly lately and hewitt isnt playing to his best.

There are two things Roddick will never do, while Federer is healthy. 1) win another grand slam, and, 2) be ranked #1 in the world. Roddicks absolute best is not good enough, even when Roger is playing less then his best. Talk about Roddicks changed game all you want, but it is still not enough. Roddick won the 1st set in their Masters match on a lucky break ( a net chord, and a Federer double fault) other wise he would have lost in straights. As much as Pmac and Cliffy want to make a rivalry out of Roddick-Federer, it remains a joke: 12&1 in favor of Roger. Other players have a better chance at beating Fed in a Grand Slam: Nadal, Safin, possibly Murray & Blake. Roddick is obviously more interested in being a hotdog, then in closing out a match, reference second set tiebreak, and his stupid leaping smash that did not even land in the court! Why would anyone even think about taking that kind of chance, against someone who has beaten you 11 out of 12 times? Not enough game, and definately to much ego.

Can't tell what's going to happen, but in the name of the beauty of the game I hope other players do better than Roddick. People, let's be honest this time. Roddick's game is AWFUL. What do you like about his game? He's not among the smartest, he's not among the fastest, he's not especially talented... he is just strong. I sincerely believe that given those limitations, he will not be #2 ever again. I would give the following players the edge over Roddick, in addition to Federer: Murray, Berdych, Baghdatis.

i was saying theat as a hopeful fan. but i do believe roddick will dethrone rafa from number 2, and make it to at least one of the finals. he looks good rnough to at least do that.

I can easily see Andy getting to the semis or finals of any major with the exception of the French Open which I don't think he cares about anyway. I'm happy to see him playing well. I think it's safe to say to Connors has helped him get his mojo back.

Connors is a definate asset for Roddick, but he can't play the points for him. I think the best thing Connors can do is humble this guy, a little. I think Roddick spends to much time listening to the rants & raves of Pmac & Cliff, who simply can not be objective, when it comes to Andy. To listen to these idiots today, you would have thought Roddick won the match against Roger, yesterday. They can't even acknowledge Roddick blew a great opportunity. They have zero credibility, when it comes to Roddick.

In addition to underrating Roddick's performance, you're also assuming Roddick has to beat Federer to win slams in the future. If history is any indication--and I grant that it may not be in Fed's case--there may be 1 or 2 more players that emerge who give Federer trouble in the slams. Even Sampras had a Wayne Ferriera or two, right?

If Fed gets knocked out early, which he will at some point, Roddick may simply need to keep doing what he's already doing: playing pretty darn well enough to keep making slam finals.

In all honesty. Its tougher for Roddick to beat Fed in a best of 5 set match as opposed to a best of 3. He'd need to sustain that high level for longer and eventually Fed would make enough of a change to come out the victor. I give Roddick credit for trying and giving it all he can. You can see the guy is doing all he can which is something I wish I could say for Safin. Guys like him p*ss me off to no end because he's that "gifted student" in the class but slacks off all the time, never studies and shows up the day of the exam and aces the test. Only all the slacking off has caught up to him and now he actually has to prepare and study for his tests but is too lazy to do it. That's why I don't get all the a*s kissing and admiration he gets when he only has one more slam than Roddick and the same amount as Hewitt. I admire the blue collar players who work their butts off and get results because of that. I'll give Fed credit because he could've been a Rios, Safin or Ivanisevic. All that game and little results. So I give Fed his due for using his game to the fullest and actually caring about the game enough to win. As for Roddick, keep on keepin' on fella. He should be top 5 material for a few more years if he keeps it up.

He did blow a great opportunity... but I think it's just as bad to not acknowledge that Roddick saved set points against the World No. 1 to get the opportunity in the first place. Go ahead and lambast Roddick's inability to close out, but also give him credit where credit's due.

Guessing about the future is fine, in my book, as long as it's an educated guess. I learned through the years that it is not unusual for a challenger to take a first set but it's much harder to then win the match. Roddick is playing a heck of a lot better now but really it's only been since August so I'm not predicting his winning Slams, as long as others are healthy.

Very true. Roddick should have won the match 6-4 7-6, yes, but he very well could have lost the second set 4-6. He kept full composure for those set points. Sometimes it's just a sport of luck. Someone has to lose, and sometimes it turns out to be the guy that appeared to be the better player.

Well, I'm a much bigger fan of Fed than Roddick, and i'll tell you straight up that Federer was outplayed for the majority of that match. Davydenko just lost similarly, outplaying Blake. It's one of the things that sucks about tennis.

What a terrible run of bad luck Roddick has had against Federer, 1-12, making Federer "appear" to be the better player.
