Roger Federer: ‘People still ask me about that Novak Djokovic defeat at Wimbledon’

Federer Top 10 Chokes : 1) 2005 Australian Open 2) 2008 Wimbledon 3) 2009 Australian Open 4) 2009 US Open 5) 2010 US Open 6) 2011 US Open 7) 2014 Wimbledon 8) 2016 Wimbledon 9) 2019 Wimbledon

2016 Wimbledon Fed was injured, he had to have a knee surgery and was out for 6 months after. Murygoat should thank his lucky stars, considering he usually got pasted against Fed in slams.

2014 and 2019 Wimbledon finals Fed had no business making those matches so close in the first place.

2008 Wimbledon he was struggling the whole season up to that point and it was Nadal in his best grasscourt form ever.

Tell me which 5 set epic Federer won ?

2004 USO QF, 2007 WImbledon F, 2009 FO SF (really one of his most underrated matches), 2009 Wimbledon F, 2017 AO SF and 2017 F.

Of course he also came back from 0-2 down 10 times and won many tight 4 setters in slams, a match can be very close and mentally taxing without it going to 5 setters.

He's also the 1st or 2nd best tiebreak player of all time (or let's say Open Era).

No player can achieve as much in 1vs1 sport like tennis without being very tough upstairs.

How dare she be excited her favorite player has a championship point!!!!???
So right. Much Ado about nothing. You can be sure the bots themselves made all sorts of confident predictions (some of which failing) and all sorts of cringey celebrations at home and sometimes even on the forum; but because the lady dared do a very mild celebration and get captured by the camera without her own knowledge, she deserves pie to her face LOL.

Self awareness dude self awareness.

Don’t forget 2001 Wimb vs PETE

Federer was playing pretty well in the 2008 clay season, apart from the Hidalgo match in Monte Carlo (1-5 down in the third set) and being marmalized by Nadal in the French Open final. Federer was a break up on Nadal in both sets in the 2008 Monte Carlo final, only for Nadal to win 7-5, 7-5. Federer also led Nadal 5-1 in the first set of the 2008 Hamburg final, only for Nadal to win 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. On grass in 2008, Federer won Halle without losing a set, and then reached the Wimbledon final without losing a set.

2008 Federer didn't look good in February-March, and looked pretty average in the hardcourt summer before the US Open. His 2008 Australian Open semi final against Djokovic was closer than people remember, i.e. Federer led 5-3 in the first set, and had set point in the third set.

His Skills were better than his Mental Toughness that’s what I mean.

It's fun for some of us to see the whole rich smug angloid crowd get their day ruined by a Serb. You wouldn't understand, but there's a lot of history there.
So you admit it's irrational because there's a fat chance she's any part of the "history" and that generalizing to include her that way so that you can continue to have a chip on your shoulder and hold on to your hatred is the dumbest idea ever. Big of you to concede that here.

Phew! Lol clock it

The angloids have been ruining themselves for the last 100 years. Says more about the 2nd/3rd world that they still view them as the devil.

Tennis Gods at that moment decided to stick it to her. And I couldn't be happier.

She has been a Djokovic fan for the last several years. Someone asked her about it, she said at the time she preferred Federer but last five years or so she was cheering for Djokovic.

gibberish. go back to school.

I know right. Too hard for sophisticated people like you with a chip on their shoulder to comprehend peasant English from me.

I am Chinese and the Japanese have done unspeakable things to my ancestors not long ago considering the long history of the Earth. Obviously, during this modern day, I am not sophisticated enough to feel offended every time a Japanese fan dares celebrate against my team during international competitions. Cus obviously Japanese soldiers from the 1940s = this random Japanese fan in the 2020s. How was I not sophisticated enough to make the association? Just look at my poor English. Cus you know right? Lack of sophistication.

I have been around the forum the same time you have in the 00s and recognize your username. So judging from your time here you must be my age or even older at 40+. I lack the true sign of maturity, which is to feel offended every time I see someone who I arbitrarily decides comes from the culture I "hate", and to make fun of him/her when his/her team loses, or to deem that acceptable.

I admire your maturity. And your ability to generate totally relevant comebacks.

They are the devil though
Point is it doesn't exist. England has been irrelevant on the world stage for 80 years, is one of the most overcrowded first world countries in the world, and has to import a large portion (most?) of its food and energy. America still has some Anglo origin upper class but at this point it's a pretty hodgepodge mix of all of Europe plus increasingly Asia. Old money New England WASP Episcopalians who send their kids to boarding school and the like are wealthy but have little to no influence on the national stage at this point.

I think you are greatly overestimating the ability to see nuance in someone who goes "I SEE PERSON I SUSPECT TO BE ANGLOID I PRESS DISLIKE DUH"

He doesn't care whether that person is indeed an Angloid. He also doesn't care whether the Angloid is related in whatever way to the power-hungry pretend-world-police variety of Angloid. He just wants to press the schadenfreude button whenever he sees someone he deems an Angloid "screwing up" cus "history" right?

It was a strange season. He looked good in the AO despite having his finals streak ended; the only match he looked not so good in was Tipsarevic, but it can happen. He also had a very close one with Berdych in 2009. He looked terrible in Indian Wells and Miami, losing to Fish in one of the worst matches he's ever played and then losing to Roddick after 10 matches (he had won the Sunshine Double in 2005 and 2006 and did poorly also in 2007). Then looked good on clay and had good matches with Nadal, played well at RG but then had that terrible final. He looked great on grass, but then was poor in Canada/Cinci/Olympics. Despite that, he was stellar at the USO, declined again, played great in Basel, and then was poor at the Masters. It was the only year he lost in the RR, even in 2013 he advanced.

Don’t forget the extremely weird choking in the MC and Hamburg finals

2008 was so refreshing seeing Federer finally look human at times, amazing he was still so good though it took peak Nadal to beat him still

Yep, he played well with Nadal in those matches for the most part, nothing that would indicate the RG thrashing. In fact, they would have been even closer if not for the choking. Maybe he was demoralized seeing how good Nadal was pre-final, and went on court knowing he had no chance.
