Looking at some of the achievements of Federer at this year's US Open (assuming no walkovers):

If he reaches the quarterfinals, he will have reached at least 10 quarterfinals at all four Grand Slams. The next best is 7 by Lendl, Agassi, and Djokovic.

If he reaches the semifinals, he will have the record for most career hard court match wins.

If he reaches the semifinals, he would be the oldest player to reach 3 grand slam semifinals in one season.

If he reaches the finals, he will have the outright record for most Wimbledon and US Open finals combined. He will join Sampras as the only players to reach at least 7 finals at 2 different Grand Slams.

If he reaches the finals, he will have won 20 grand slam matches for the 9th season in his career. By comparison, Sampras had 3 years and Nadal has had 4 and Novak will be going for 4.

If he wins, he becomes the first player to ever win 2 different Grand slams at least 6 times. He would have the open era record for most years (11) between winning 2 different Grand Slams.

If he wins, he becomes the first player in the open era to win 6 Grand Slams after the age of 26.

Great OP! Thanks
Am surprised and impressed to see Djoko already, at the tender age of 27, has 7 QF's at each slam!

Well, most of the achievements should be accomplished before 28-29. Djokovic won't keep piling records forever, to put things into perspective. The amazing thing about Federer's achievements is that he has been doing some great things after the age 28. I wonder if any of the other big 4s can do that. ;)

If he wins, this forum would go nuts

Omg, the number of bannings would be unreal!

Some of the Fredophiles would catch irrational exuberance, whereas some of the Nadochists would hemorrhage!

But like others have said, it's still premature. Fred's playing well, but Djok, Ali, Wawa, and one of the kids could also catch fire.

Ought to be a great tournment. :)

Insane. But he's still got to get there first. :)

I love Federer too but nothing is a given nowadays. Let's say he runs into an on fire Tsonga, Monfils or heck even Robredo. Fed is playing some inspiring tennis but best out of 5 is completely different. Of course I would love to be proven wrong :)

Is best-of-5 with days off really that much harder than his consecutive runs at Toronto/Cinci (best-of-3 but no rest)??? JWT could be scary...Monfils less. Robredo? He lost in straights today to Mahut...not buying him as a threat.

I'll wait to see his draw but I'm expecting QFs or much betterer.

Bolded is the reason why he will not reach SF at USO.
