Roger Federer is the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for 2014

Half the folks in this thread are confused.

Fed won both the Stefan Edberg award for Sportsmanship and the ATP fan favorite award.

Stefan Edberg award is voted by fellow players while the other one is by fans (obviously includes players who are themselves hardcore Fed fans)

Fellow players know that Fed is someone who plays the sport with class and dignity - does not abuse rules - MTO's , time taken to serve , on court coaching and the whole enchilada. Will not fake injuries to gain mental advantage or not hype opponent and fake humility.

So you are saying that in the past 10 years except Federer, and Nadal in 2010, there has been no other tennis player on the tour, who in one whole calendar year was respecting throughout the tennis on court rules and his opponents.

Well deserved??? What the hell has he done this year to deserve this award  Show me just one tiny sportsmanship Federer moment in the past 365 days?

Don't ask us.. ask the players who interact with him for the majority of the year - they vote for him.

If you think they're wrong, then a suggestion: stake yourself outside each tournament and squirt water balloons on the players who will be voting as they pass you by :D

It certainly is. Murray has never criticised Roger's playing style or ever made snide remarks about his achievements.

Fed said Murray was too passive. Lendl agreed, Murray won 2 slams. Maybe he should have listened to Fed earlier and he might have 3 or 4 slams.

If Fed swore every game maybe he wouldn't get the award!

Lol...I think it's high time they just re-named it 'The Roger Federer Sportsmanship Award' and just automatically hand it to him every year until he retires. No need to bother with a vote! :)

PS. How the heck did racquet-smashing, umpire-arguing, street-fighting (he once explained away a black eye by saying he'd been in a fight in Moscow) girl-chasing, party-loving Marat Safin land the award TWO years in a row back in 01 and 02? In fact he was the last player ever to win it before Roger came along! Who would have suspected the players of the time thought Safin exhibited more sportsmanship than anybody else?

The quoted screenshot is for Fan Favorite, not the Sportsmanship award.

Yeah right! That is why the link for the fan favorite award was posted in the Nadal News Thread weeks ago and was also posted on the Nadal worshipping blogs.

You need a better excuse, that one is worn out.

LOL.

If true Humbalito is showing (as per his most ardent fans) more humbleness than the humble *************.

What should we make of all this?

Just why DO the other players like Federer so much when he so often makes sarcastic and dismissive comments about them? I can understand him getting the award on 1 or 2 occasions but year after year after year? What gives??

Plenty of players have gone out commending Federer for his classy behavior and for being very friendly and courteous towards almost everyone on tour, also the unaccomplished ones:confused: Nishikori recently calling him the player he "respects the most" is one example that springs to mind, among countless others.

Why didn't Djokovic win comeback player of the year? He went through hell and back reclaiming #1.

Not true. Djokovic had more points by the end of 2013 than he possibly can get at the end of this years season.

Therefore not even a comeback but rather a throwback. in terms of success of course.

No hate here but I dont understand why Federer won this sportmanship award so many times and players like Tsonga or Murray never won it once, i don't get it. Or Djokovic? Did he win it once?

Because it's the players voting. I am assuming that Fed is a really nice guy off the court too. Players do keep on saying this. I think a lot of it has to do with how you act off the court too. Not saying that Tsonga, Murray or Djokovic are d1cks off the court though...

Oh ok so in short it means Federer is the favourite player of the tour.

So, Fed won the sportsmanship award last year after trying to cheat against his own countryman.

There goes its credibility. That's why it's useless.

"Bob and Mike Bryan, Roger Federer and Andy Murray have been honoured in the 2014 ATP World Tour Awards presented by Moët & Chandon."

Looks like me voting 40+ times really payed off.

Allez Rogi!

You clearly did not read the appendix of the awards page :D

My bad, I have an eye injury. Left eye, wait.... no, the right one. My eyes are always injured late in the year but miraculously recover in the Spring in time for my favourite reading season. My reading style must be really hard on the ocular nerves...

. . . And I have never, ever lost a page number unless I was injured ;)

Exactly! The trick is to turn the pages slowly, taking up to a minute while scratching your forehead and constantly adjusting your reading glasses. The moment you feel you're about to lose a page number head straight to the bathroom to freshen up and regain concentration. Works every time!

Congratulations to Roger Federer. Was never in doubt especially considering Stefan Edberg is his coach right now.

win!................................... :)

Federer getting awarded must have hurt a lot of people's feeling. 2 threads on this? It's clear that Federer is a good sportsman because this award is voted by the players who see the real personal sides of their colleagues. Federer getting respected this way should tell his detractors something.

Two notable guys showed the proper respect to F namely Cilic and Raonic!

lol. So which player are you in disguise? And congrats on the strictures ATP has in place to stop players from voting twice or more times in the Sportsmanship award :D

I meant for the Fan Favorite award. :)

Just like Kyrgios, Coric and Lopez did to Rafa? :)

No, I don't hate Nadal but I know you are a Nadal fan who hates Federer so that's why I said that. ;)

It's good to show the respect by playing their best tennis!

Absolutely!

Tennis is competition you do not play sub par tennis because you respect some old champion too much.

I can't wait to see some young gun bagel F and put him in his place!

Why do you always refer to Federer as "F." Do you really have no respect for a man who has down so much for this sport?

So much hate from you towards Fed there.

I'm sorry but I don't think you'll get what you are hoping for. I think Fed will be long gone before that kind of thing happens. ;)

And guess what? I think you are gonna miss him!

Mental he received 65% of the votes. I'd love to know how many people voted.

Federer knows the truth of how he won the fan favourite award.

Roger on Fans Favorite Award: "It's very big and I feel very honoured. Probably many ladies and guys voted for me multiple times" HAH
