Roger Federer "It's been a Great Career" - Laver Cup 2022 Press Conference

Roger had an insane career, insane longevity-wise as well. 24 years on the pro tour. That's A LOT. That's probably why Federer made peace with potentially having to retire quite some time ago, and has been ready to embrace the after-tennis life for awhile too. It seems that way to me, at least. The more I see his recent photos and interviews, how relaxed and calm he appears, the more I think that for Federer this isn't actually a sad moment. It is bittersweet, for sure. But you get a feeling that he was awaiting a new beginning more than he was fearing the end of his tennis career. And yeah, his new beginnimg is bound to be amazing. It's different for the fans though. It's like when your favorite teacher is leaving to start a better life somewhere else. You know they are happy and that's the most important thing, but you feel the loss acutely nonetheless.

I think being away from the game for an extended period of time has made Federer realize that there is life beyond tennis. He probably discovered new passions and spent more time with his family than ever before. It was easier to make this decision rather than do it on the spot while still playing.

I get the feeling that Federer has no plans for his retirement.

On being asked about his plans about the future, the 20-time Grand Slam title winner said, "I do not know exactly what my future will be, but I do not want to completely distance myself from the sport that has given me everything."

It's ridiculous that Fed acts as if he doesn't know who he's playing doubles in with (if he even plays). Obviously it will be with Rafa. 0% doubt about that.
I figured the only doubt would be if Nadal is actually playing. I assume he's good to go but I don't know.
