How long?
Is not on his hands anymore.
His record will be broken soon!

Yep. Nadal or Djokovic will take at least 1, possibly 2 slams each again next year. Novak could even take 3.
That 20 slam target is gone soon.

Do you believe him? :)

There are so many levels to self-deception, and I think none of us is immune to this. Any one that competitive wants his records to last.
Ofcourse he wants to keep the record but what can he do about it other than to try to win more?
But he isn't that much in contention like the other 2.
So he had to come up to terms with the fact that the record might very well get broken.

So when he says that it's a bit of motivation but not really the main reason why he is on tour, I believe him.

"Keeping the record" and "winning more" go hand in hand but aren't exactly the same things. I can totally imagine wanting to win more still not being obsessed about keeping the record.

He's got other records to fall back on plus a period of dominance only Novak can claim but that was shorter than Fed's.

Even still, let's say Nadal beats it next year, (which would require another Non-French crown) that means Fed will have held the record 11 years. Sampras held it for 9.

And right behind Nadal is Novak, so Nadal might only keep the record for 2 or 3 years himself.

Here's the timeline btw:

Renshaw from 1889-1925: 36 Years
Tilden from 1925-1967: 42 Years
Emerson from 1967-2000: 33 Years
Sampras from 2000-2009: 9 Years

This is a Laughable Idea to Entertain.

Agreed. If anyone thinks Federer isn't deeply disturbed by the prospect of his most important record in tennis being broken very soon, he is deluding himself.

Fed/Nadal/Djoko's dominance reminds me of the Lendl/Connors/McEnroe era. They were the big three back then. Their era could never be called a weak era. So many ATGs during their time preventing any one of them from poaching all the slam titles like the big three today

With that H2H towards Djokodal I’m sure the thought of his record being beaten has hit him many times.
