"Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic lack emotion" Michael Stich

Stich either is doing hard drugs or has early onset dementia if he remembers Sampras as having any personality on court. Pete let his racket do the talking, but his personality was as dull as dishwater. Pete would be the first person to admit it and has.
Exactly. The way Pete did his talking with the racket is what I liked. Borg was the same. Laver. Rosewall. But to say he showed more emotion is just weird.

It's not on the court where the Big Three are dull. It's once they step off of it. Polished, political, image conscious - selling it to each of their fan bases.

Rafa lives an interesting life off the court, you just are not aware of what the Spanish media writes, says, shows.
In Spain, he was voted as the best bar partner to spend time drinking beer each year from 2011 to 2019.
He was voted fair play player at the ATP tour multiple times, while being one of the biggest cheater from beginning of his career... He's even nominated this year too, lol, that's how showing this kind of voting is....

What is this nonsense? Nadal does over-the-top celebrations after every point, Djokovic breaks his racket every match, and Federer cries like a baby after half his matches. Off the court, Federer and Nadal are boring, but Djokovic is definitely not- he has an interesting origin story and is not afraid to go against the grain when voicing opinions.

Djokovic being a weirdo doesn't make him not boring lol

They're deathly afriad of losing sponsors. Can't go "off the cuff" anymore either now. Since everyone is filming every move you make today. Mac/Connors would have been kicked off the tour long ago in today's PC garbage era. Yea it was sucks. Rivals used to be enemies. Now they're all best buddies politically correct about everything. They aren't even HUMANS essentially. Just PR robots.

Why? They have hundreds of millions in the bank.

Well Rafa owns a yacht. So they have probably blown a good chunk of the money already, Living like Kings and Queens. Money goes fast especially if you have an entourage of bilkers and greedy wives. Outside of Djoker, none of them are winning title anymore.

The authorities were harassing Connors and McEnroe at the time. Connors once exploded in anger in the 1990s when a journalist asked him about his era and reminisced. Connors said something to the effect of "Don't go on about it like that. We entertained you for years and you lot ruined it all". Why were they so obsessed with bringing Connors and McEnroe to heel when they were the reason people tuned in?

Rafa clearly tries to keep everything calm. That's what "Humbalito" is about and all the nice, polite comments he makes about everyone.

Nadal has given the must exuberant celebrations after winning points, of anyone in the history of tennis.
Way more than Agassi and Sampras ever did.
Agassi did more than Sampras, but Nadal did more than Agassi.
And in terms of anger, Nadal doesn't display much anger toward the umpires, but displays plenty of anger toward himself (albeit not a violent display).
So for positive emotion, I'd give Nadal 10/10.
For negative emotion, I'd give Nadal maybe 6/10, because he consistently displays anger but its low-key.
Agreed. Pete, Lendl, and Fed are the gold standard for "emotionless execution"

Neither Rafa nor his wife seem to blow money. Rafa has invested in businesses. According to Forbes, Rafa's current yacht cost him around $6.2 million. He has made larger investments in his businesses (real estate {renovation and development}, tennis facilities, restaurants, hotels). He also invests in his own seafront house he is building in his hometown of Porto Cristo. But, of course, it's wise to maintain good relationships with sponsors, they are useful for business.

Too many rules. Current players have their hands tied with all the rules regarding time between points, time to the coin toss etc. They don't have the time to express themselves. They hardly have time to get their breath back after a long rally. Now they even want to deny them time to go to the toilet. How they expect a normal human being to go up to 5 hours without a toilet break playing in soggy wet clothes is beyond me.

That's because there's no one else of note from Spain.

No doubt he'd also make a great pairing with a handful of salty nuts
Yet all he can manage is a few "have a beer" votes. Meanwhile Djokovic is running Serbia.
Well, politics in most countries is expensive and perhaps the rest of Serbia haven't enough money to get into politics because they're too busy paying taxes to the Serbian government :D

There is not a dumber way to squander your earnings than to donate it to a government when you have the option not to.

Not that I disagree with the idea that you should reduce tax where you can, at least from a purely personal POV, but there are plenty of dumber things to squander your earnings than to pay taxes.

Alcohol and drugs, buying a new car when you already have one, buying a big petrol-guzzling truck when the only heavy lifting you do is pick up the groceries, buying a big rifle for your protection only to lock it behind a safe that you won't be able to access quickly enough in an actual situation that calls for it, etc.

Purely from a PR side of things, it's difficult to claim to be a patriot when you pay your taxes to another country's government.

Everything you listed is a wiser expenditure than donations to the government, and patriotism is silly.

Other than the fact that they pay for roads, the fire department, police force, military, airports, shipping ports, public parks, education, etc, yeah, all taxes are silly.

I didn't say patriotism was necessarily good, but given how loud Djokovic is with his patriotism, the irony is particularly notable.

Djokovic shows the most emotions among the big 3, Rafa during the match shows lesser than Novak, Federer somewhere in between as he shows least during the match but after the match he cries.

Hmm, dear Fed devotee, this reminds me that someone's parents worked for a synthetic tear manufacturing company.

Stop making up stories & cheating TTW readers. Rafa is far more emotional than crybaby Fed :

I am not a Fed devotee, I was pointing out to Federer crying after his 1st wimbledon win while he was talking at the presentation ceremony, he is speaking in excitement and then within milliseconds he shifts to crying gear, that is the sort of emotions that I was pointing to. Then there was that stunt which fed pulled at the AO when he cried on losing like a girl who lost her only chance at winning a beauty pageant.

Federer always used to whine and cry if you remember the formative years, but he grew up, and I believe that played a big role in his becoming a contender for the best ever.. Djokovic and Nadal have massive emotions and charisma; why else does everyone around the world know them? This sounds like sour grapes

I think he's talking about authenticity.
He could have meant anything because we can't hear him talk. An interview is one thing, and even if it is text, if it's a long quote, it might be important.

But this article is unreliable. There is no reason to trust this source.

Mostly true concerning Pete, however, to say that Novak shows no personality on court is silly The same with Murray and perhaps to a lesser extent, Nadal. Pro tennis IS about Winning, not on court antics.

I think he's talking about their real personality. Not some made up one. Pete did not maybe have an appealing personality, but he was himself. People knew who he was.

I just think it is a spiritual issue. The world is becoming more and more Godless and more and more boring as a result.

This is bizarre.
Pete practically moped on court with a hangdog expression, occasionally releasing some petsonality on his "slam dunks". Fed became somewhat stoic, but lets fans in a bit more than Pete.

I guess Rafa should play with more exuberance, and Novak should emote more. Got it...

There have to a bunch of morons out there to believe this BS! Pete was truly the most boring of the modern day pro; never showing much on court! IDK what to say this is so ludicrous! We had commentators actually complaining about how lifeless Sampras could be on court & now we hear the exact opposite from a contempary! What an idiot! :-D

Yes, essentially. And I don't mind Pete being himself - but the cluelessness about it from Stich (who I know nothing about off the court) was bizarre.

Pete is Humphrey Bogart of tennis. His racquet talks as much as anyone else in tennis history.

Djokovic is boring? He's considered a villain. A boring villain?

Why would rivals being enemies to begin with.. If anything it was a stupid attitude/behaviour.
Dont blame this area on ******** behaviour people used to have.

Pete? Boring? maybe personality wise. But certainly not game wise. He had one one (if not thee) most dynamic all court game of all time. Certainly more fun than watching this ping pong baseline back and forth shots with points that should have ended 10 minutes before if someone had the ability to hit a volley games
