Hi Everyone,
I have just joined this forum being a tennis player for the last 20 years playing 7 days a week previously now playing 3-4 i have always been a fan of federer, i was wanting to know some things about his customised racquet. I know that they get customised through priority one professional stringing service, what i am curious about is the weight i have read that it is 366g can someone tell me if this is the case? Also knowing this racquet at stock is 340g does he also use lead tape inside the frame aswell? The strings i have also heard is a mix of Wilson Natural Gut in the mains, with Luxilon Alu Power Rough in the crosses strung at 26-27 kg 56-58 pounds, is this the case? Also power pads in the throat of the racquet the 6 middle holes what are the purpose of these? I appreciate peoples advice, also i hear that fabfed is a good authority on all things fed

Welcome to the board James!
You will get a LOT of replies I'm sure to your inquiry. Take it all with a bit of a grain of salt. :)
Strings you are correct although he does vary his tension a bit (usually down a few lb)
Power Pads - they don't really do much to be honest. They are more of a item he's just used to.
Don't forget he also uses some string savers (there are threads on here on where he puts them)

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply thanks for the welcome, i noticed its says pro under your username are you on the tour currently? i know about the string savers i have seen them on his racquet higher up across 4-5 strings do you know where abouts the thread is? How about the weight i have read anywhere from 364-66 grams is this accurate? do you know if he adds extra weight inside the frame, i have read both sides saying yes and no with the strings i know it varies due to conditions etc would we say 53-54 at the moment i string mine at 53 using the older BLX Six One Tour Black/Red and the older KFactor 90 Black/White Red previously as well always used Wilson

Oh he also uses a leather grip (P1 brand if I remember correctly) and Wilson Pro Overgrip in white.

Hi Peter,
I knew he would i have used the white overgrip before i find they get real dirty too quickly, nice grip though, at the moment i'm using the Toalson Ultra Grip i like the tackiness of this grip, do you also know with P1 service can it be used for the normal tennis player not just only for the pros or is this the case only?

My advice is don’t get too caught up to in getting this racquet customised. I just a standard frame and I love it. Just use a Wilson over grip, gut in the mains and banger rough in the crosses with the power pads under the throat. I don’t use the 10 string savers. String itvat whatever tension u like. I go high as the rf97 has a lot of power. Give it a go it’s the best Frame on the market.

"Professional" title is just related to how many posts I have on this board. It's FAR from my tennis level!! :)

No weight added 'inside' the frame. I don't know the details of weight customizations P1 does though. I'd guess some weight at the top under the bumper. Handle weight maybe be changed more by foam density of new grips vs actual added weight but that's just a guess based on some past comments by Ron Yu of P1.

P1 service was for sure open to anyone that wanted customization before. I don't know if that's still the case as I'm sure they are busy with all their pro clients, but I'm sure if you send them a quick email they would get back to you with a proper answer.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, the current racquet that i am using is the Wilson BLX Six One Tour 90 340g before this was the KFactor Black/White/Red 90, looking now to upgrade to the RF 97 340g, at the same time also looking at the RF 97 with Countervail 315g for the vibration dampening and comfort qualities that this technology offers, what are your thoughts on the countervail option? I have used the pro overgrip white before nice grip, with the strings do you mean Wilson Natural Gut along with Luxilon ALU Power Rough, also the power pads what are the use for these?Tension wise im using 53lbs are you saying 56-58 due to the power of the racquet already?

I demoed the countervail model and I didn’t like it. As for gut any gut is good. I like babolat 17g or the Wilson 17g. The power pads change the feel. The reduce vibration and create more accuracy. U will need a professional stringer to do this string job. Not a department store stringer. I string at 61 pounds. With prestrech on both strings.

Hi, thanks for the advice i was thinking the wilson 17g, so you go just above the recommended being 60 how do you find the control?
