Roger Federer's racket setup and tension @ Estoril Open

Hi,

1.

Federer's said he plays on clay courts with a different racket setup (weight and balance). The racket is a little bit heavier and a little bit more head heavy than on hard courts.

2.

Rui Neves has strung Federer's sticks at Estoril Open and told us:

Federer's racket beam is very thin and his racket is stiff. He plays with 2 different strings (hybrid). Usually players prefer polyester mains and natural gut crosses but federer prefers natural gut mains. Federer's has a very soft stringbed. Thomas Muster has played with 40kg.

mains: natural gut @ 22kg
crosses: polyester

Rui Neves haven't time to mention the brand of strings and crosses tension. But everyone knows he plays with Wilson Natural Gut and Luxilon Alu Power Rough.

Rui Neves didn't mention that. Maybe 1.5kg less for the crosses (20.5kg).

It's not Wilson Natural Gut but Babolat VS 16..

its actually all the same. wilson buys their gut from babolat and then repackages it so basically wilson gut=babolat gut.

Actually, they are one in the same. Wilson's Gut is made by VS.

I'm not sure abt that wilson gut = bablot gut anymore. The gut in the champions choice is definitely not bablot. Don't know if it is just the the champions choice, but instead of saving the odd couple of dollars now, i just go with the sure thing.

actually wilson gut is not the same as vs. the sponsored wilson players get the vs gut but the champions choice you buy is not good gut. wilson gut is made by pretty cheap almost similiar to pacific gut if not worse.

There's a thread in the String forum about this very subject.

The gut in Champion's Choice is subpar gut. The gut in Wilson Natural Gut packaging is made by Babolat. I've been using VS Team and Wilson NG for many years and Wilson gut is made in France by Babolat minus the proprietary Thermogut coating.
