Roger is the easy favorite for the title right now

I'm really not going for a reverse jinx here, I'm just calling it like I see it. Dimitrov and Stan are his pets historically while Medvedev looks gassed. Then in the Final we have a mug or Rafa who while formidable has had more than a little bit of difficulty with Roger in the last couple of seasons. Of course many things can change quickly, but I don't see how someone could measure things differently from where we stand now.
i concur that......only medvedev can save tennis now.......rafa is far from the favourite, he has become a chicken mentally......if he somehow gets to the final maybe he could derive some inspiration from his great record in finals at the us open but i still have my doubts if it is a well rested fraud on the other side of the net.......

I am going for a Medvedev v Fed and Rublev v Nadal semis at the moment. Maybe Stan can come through v Daniil, but having never yet beaten Roger on hard courts, I am feeling better about Roger’s chances. Still will never forget how he lost v Cilic 5 years ago. So not getting too far ahead of myself.

I don’t agree at all. After this match he will probably be 50% plus in odds.

I think Fed and Nadal have equal shots if you are talking old guys. I like Rublev’s chances for a yon g gun.

Interesting for Fed, Dimitrov is hungry for a win there. If anything, Dimitrov will push Fed physically which can change the dynamic going forward. Fed needs to jump out early in that one.

Yeah Roger has a lot to be worried about with Dimi. Might even lose 4 games in a set if he's not careful lol

Dimitrov has made some amazing late round matches against players so I would not be surprised if he does the same. We will see. Fed is playing great as of the last round, but hasn’t looked stellar each round.

Roger and Rafa on a "slow" hard court. 50/50. at AUS, yes but een that was kind of a gift. I don't see Roger winning this but it would be sweet to beat a H2H nemesis having given away the Wimbledon title.

I think it’s very tough to call between fed and Nadal! Fed has had the upper hand lately against Rafa off clay. However, in past and still overall Rafa has the H2H in his favour!

They never met at the us open so it’s hard to say who favourite! Fed won it 5 times but last time was 2008 when he won 5 in a row! Crazy, that he racked them all up then and not won since 11 years ago! Whereas Nadal has 3, however he’s won his all more recent! I make it 50-50, maybe fed has a slight edge as he had had nadals number off clay recently. However, the 2nd best slam at moment for Rafa to face fed would probs be us open. It’s slower than Aussie open and Rafa has more recent success there!

This time Djokovic is gone and i have a feeling Rafa would love a showdown with Federer. Reason being is it shortens GOAT debate. That match would be decider. Rafa wins he could retire as everyone would say nadal is GOAT.

Boy, that escalated quickly.

I don't care who wins between Fed and Nadal as I like them both with Fed little more than Nadal but I want Fed to win so one of the most annoying VBers who is so full of hatred for Fed can disappear from ttw for a while.

I don't care about his struggles in the past though. Look at what this season has revealed to us. That Roger is in terrific form and a handful for Rafa off of clay (where Rafa of course bludgeons Roger to a pulp). I'm not saying Rafa CAN'T beat Roger in a final here, but Roger is certainly the more likely to win in my eyes.
Roger got knocked out of Cincinnati by Rublev in like the quickest defeat of his life, and dropped sets in both his first two rounds. Because he trounced a woeful Goffin and outclassed Rafa at Wimbledon on a completely different surface he's the EASY favourite? The 'recent' hardcourt record everybody refers to hasn't had a match added to it in almost 2 years. Do we really believe both these guys are in the same place they were 2 years ago?

Unfortunately for me I must agree with the title here. Fed has no serious competition the next two rounds (servebots present his biggest non big 3 danger), and he’s won the last 5 HC matches against Nadal. And it was amazing their Wimbledon match was even as close as it was, because not only did Rafa have his usual serving disadvantage, he was losing more of the rallies than he was winning. His FH just doesn’t bother Fed anymore, and he seems to be unable to penetrate his defenses the majority of the time.

No one loathes Fed on here more than me, but he’s owned Rafa off-clay the last few years, it’s the truth.

Octo and Clay do, based on a long history of both their postings. That's a level of visceral hate hitherto unseen on planet earth. I also think women are more passionate haters than men, and a million times more b-tchy about it.
Not to mention CYGS, Lew , Nadal_Django, etc.

I hope rafa wins it but it won't be easy I think, he would need to be in good form in coming days and also fully fit. Also that Final with Federer he may go in as lesser favourite but that could be a good thing for him.

In a HTH match, I would take Nadal over Federer at this slow USO court. As it was, Fed had a tough time with Nadal at Wimbledon. The much slower USO will make Nadal the clear favorite in a HTH matchup.

Fed’s draw to the final is easier, however.

Fed is an old man after all. He’s quite capable of having an off day, which happens much more often than it used too.

I haven't seen Lew hate on anybody. He's literally just stating numbers in his posts (even if I believe some of them are cherrypicked) and nothing else. I can see why he'd be annoying to some, but he's not really a hater in any sense of the word. I give him credit for that.

Now, those other two... I see where you're coming from.

Yeah, I'm not getting that 5-0 streak from 2 years ago that is constantly being cited. It is practically meaningless now.
Rafa, at age 32, will definitely be favored over the older Fed.

doubt this Rafa is in better form and he has nobody to plsy. Trolling of the highest order

Yeah, I was being a bit unfair to Lew there, I'll admit.

Hmm. If Nadal beats federer at the U.S open it would complete the federer slam and have a winning gs h2h at 3 out of the 4 majors and would almost certainly overtake hs slam count.

Nah I think Fed pulls this off but Nadal is definitely the co-favourite with him.
I suspect Fed will beat Nadal in 5 close sets in the final. I certainly wouldn't write off Rafa just because Fed has won the last few non-clay encounters; the Spaniard is pumped up to achieve No 19 and potentially finish the year as No 1.

I have to come out of retirement quickly just to address this. 1) Wimbledon was not a tough match. The final 2 sets should have been 6-1 6-2 for Federer, he made it way harder. He tanked the second and had BP at 3-4 in the first. The score didn’t do that match justice at all, it was comprehensive any way you look at it.

2) How many times are we going to have this speed argument. All I kept hearing was how slow Wimbledon was and it will favour Nadal, but because he lost now we don’t hear anything about it. Indian Wells and Miami are the slowest on tour and Fed absolutely destroyed Nadal there. And again, Federer is much more competent on slower hard than fast hard since the racket switch and I’ll stay by that.

Anyway that’s me done.

Books have it as Nadal +110 Federer+220 Medvedev+800 Stan+800.

I feel pretty good about it. If Federer was going to win, I suspect he'd be much closer to Nadal's number.

Yawn. This is clearly one of those weak, typical "say-what-I-most-don't-want-to-happen" threads that often pop up on this board. If Federer wins the title, the OP says "I told you so!". If Federer loses the title, the OP says "I'm happy to be wrong!"
Speaking of YAWN. You Federer obsessists are so sensitive and insecure, playing with your mental gymnastics. You all must have your PSY-D degrees to be able to dissect everything that goes on in our heads.

I think a Federer and Nadal match is 50/50. And I think Federer will have a harder time getting to the final (Dimitrov/Medvedev/Stan vs Diego/Berrettini/Monfils). So I think Nadal is the favorite.
