I'm so pumped for this I can't even fall asleep. Who do you think is going to take it? Djokovic is the defending champion, he defeated Roddick, Nadal and Federer to win it.

I think it's about time Federer started winning some tournies. 0 grand slams + 0 Masters Series this year does not look good on the number 1 player. I think he'll win this one, and hopefully get a tiny bit of revenge on Nadal.

Looks like potential Djokovic-Nadal semifinal, if Nadal can get past Ferrer or Berdych for that matter

Federer vs Gulbis or Gonzalez in the round of 16.

Blake has an easy ride to the round of 16.

Roddick-Tipsarevic in the 2nd round.

I don't really see Nadal getting to the finals, but it would be great if he did.

I am picking Federer as the dark horse to win this tournament.

If Toronto plays at the speed that it did in 2006, Nadal has a good shot. Hopefully Nadal doesn't get too far behind the baseline again. I don't understand why he does that on hardcourts. It is punishing.

Looks like Toronto could be the slowest hardcourt unless they sped it up this year. They did slow it down tremendously after 2004 so we'll see.
 
If I am not mistaken, the Canada tournament alternate every year and Roger Federer has won the last 2 years it's been held in Toronto. It's make of break time for Mr. Federer, interesting 2nd half of the year. But I will stick with the old chap.
 
as much as I hate him..probably Djokovic..hes had the most rest and recovery of the possible contenders for the title in the past 2 months.
 
Toronto is a slow surface, slower than Montreal

Gasquet made the finals in Toronto in 2006 and took the first set off Federer before Fed abandoned the baseline and started crashing the net at every opportunity. Gasquet beat Ljubicic, Murray and Blake in his run to the final.... so I hope he has good results here again.

Even with this history, I still voted for Djokovic to take the title. I'd be surprised if Federer can win this one again. I think he would do better on a faster hardcourt. He should win the Masters in Cinci.

Nadal should do well, but for whatever reason he loses his usual movement advantage over other players when play is on hard surfaces. I guess the solid footing makes the other guys more competitive.

But at least the temperatures will resemble what the players are used to seeing in Europe, so this will be decided by tennis skills and not just determined by who can best hold up under brutal heat conditions.

It is the same tournament that alternates between two cities. Same tournament, same name (Roger's cup), hence same title to be defended.

Slower surface in Toronto is advantage for Djokovic, who is better on slower hardcourts than on faster.
 
The Federer slams/masters drought will continue. This could be Nadal's statement tourney on hardcourts. Otherwise it's Djokovic or even Davydenko.
 
Both Federer and Nadal must be physically/mentally drained. Djokovic and Davydenko. I wouldn't be surprised if someone outside top 5 wins. This is somewhat quiet time in season.
 
1) I love Rafa, but the hardcourts are not kind to his knees. And the last time he won this, were there a few people on the poll here not standing in his way that year? I think he wants to reserve as much as he can for the Open.

2) I don't think Andy's playing. Isn't he out rehabbing an injury?

3) As others have said, it's Roger's Cup.

Agreed but it also helps Nadal. I think Nadal would've won in Toronto 2 years ago if he didn't decide to take a month off. 2 weeks off is much easier to break off the rust.

The ball skids more, and most of the time players are VERY comfortable on HCs, meaning they are going to hit the felt off the ball. Nadal's western grip does not bold well on the HCs.



Gonna go with Federer on this one. He will be very motivated to win this and send a message to the field.

I disagree. It is the movement that Nadal suffers with the most on hardcourts. It is so foreign to the movement on clay. I agree though that a lot of players are comfortable on hardcourts. Nadal is one of the few that isn't or isn't as comfortable as clay and grass.

Hopefully Tipsarevic will be on Roddick's side and beat him in the 2nd round, so Roddick can lose some points and Davydenko can possibly get to the SF. :twisted:
