rogers new frame update,

RFRF

Semi-Pro
ok just got back from a meeting with wilson yesterday and this is the latest,
the new frame is a combination of the blade and pro staff but with the 98 head as we already know. it has a PWS but the PWS isn't as wide as on the pro staff. its staying at 17.5 or 18mm thickness with the graphite and kevlar braid.
its 95 % a certain green light but there just waiting on the final go ahead from The master (Rog)
If its a go ahead there will be a family of them coming out with rogers as the flag ship model. They asked for possible names i suggested PROBLADE, and rogers as the RF1 as i saw somebody posted earlier. thats all i know so far.

Ha! I knew the beam was thin judging by the latest pictures. (Though I didn't think it was going to be as thin as 18mm and below, I was thinking 20mm. But good to know.

Will this be a box beam? Or the ovalish-like? Thanks!

This could be the racquet I've been waiting for! I don't really care about the RF affiliation, but a 98sq head, will probably be 335-340gish, thin beam, leather handle I imagine as well, PERFECT.

Hi,

Just 18 thickness? How good is this intel?

Thanks.

I trust you wouldn't be swayed by this and stay true to your beloved and trusted 85?

18 mm? So it will be nothing like the racquet Fed played with at the AUS Open. No way that was 18 mm, more like 21-22

Having said that, I'd love an 18 mm MP frame - an update to the legendary Gamma frames of old (Wilson lineage notwithstanding ;) )

No, those pictures showed a pretty thin beam. I wouldn't flat out say they were 18mm and below, but they were thin enough (and from a distance), I wouldn't argue if they were indeed 18-19mm.

Fair enough (I wouldn't either), however, hypothetically if they made it a 14mm beam, interested?

My love for a thin beamed racquets have a limit. :)

I don't think I would dip below a 16mm beam.

But I think the 98 will appeal to a lot of current Pro Staff users. Just the face that the 98 square inch frame will have long mains/crosses, exaggerating the string trampoline effect.

There's the PS 95 too, but then there's just not enough mass in stock form.

I Prefer Blade Runner Federer....................

Anyway, it is good that they are releasing a Family of them. since the One that Master is using is probably too Demanding for Amateur level guys. How can we possibly use the exact same racket the GOAT uses.........

Wilson needs to contact PeterFig ASAP to license his designs for this new line of racquets.

I definitely think PeterFig's designs are cool. Now that Fed is apparently going to switch, Wilson should put Stefan (for PS 90 2014) on their ads again, ''...current stick of Roger Federer's coach...'';)

Wilson once had a contraption disguised as a tennis racquet that was called the Wilson Spin with a round beam of 15 mm :) Looked supremely cool, though, and quite heavy despite resembling an overpriced fly-swatter.

Was a total sales disaster, if I recall correctly. Apparently not stable enough.

Keep it at 19 mm or nearby.... this is the sweet spot for 95-98 sqin frames... Yonex Pro RD 70 Long with its waif-like 16 mm frame notwithstanding

Hello RFRF

Thanks for the update. Was any timeline discussed of a potential release date if all goes well? I appreciate any additional info that you can share.

Correction, the racket the OLD GOAT uses...

But it's a 98 that's in the 12 oz range!!! Most racquets nowadays are the crappy 98's in the 10 and 11 oz range, made for the little babby. :)

True, almost forgot, those are Barbie specs,:) this one's the real deal but still I'm sticking with the old.

If this new racquet really has a thin beam of 17.5mm-18mm and a head size no bigger than 95 sq. in., I would try it. Those of us who used to use the PS 6.0 95 Original always wished it had a thinner beam. There aren't too many racquets bigger than 90 sq. in. that have a thin beam less than 19mm. The only two I've played with that I can think of are the Donnay X-Dark Red 94 and the Donnay Pro One International 95, and I loved both of them. The thin beam is one big reason. :) Oh, I guess one other one is the current ProStaff 95, which I do like but it's way too light.

leaded up, the 95 is very nice. good pop, feel, and forgiveness coming from a 90, with just as much stability. just as heavy as my 90s but easier play with

that's why the 98 intrigues me.

Talked with a Wilson rep yesterday, and there are not any plans to put the new Fed racket out to the public unless he stays with it for the entire year.

This stick will forever alter the course of the sport as we know it.

I spoak to zapvors Wilson rep yesterday and he confirmed this Raquet is a true game changer.

Spoke with Federer the other day and he said that the Wilson rep he spoke to said that if Federerererer wins a slam Wilson will mass produce the stick with custom lead tape and power pads. But I have to confirm with a Wilson rep that Federa wants to confirm with other Wilson reps first before he talks to Wilson Repps.

Spoke with Federer too, and he told me the new frame will incorporate "Elastio-BLX" fibers along with the braided graphite and kevlar. Allowing him to extend the racquet when he needs to hit high backhands. Definitely a game changer.

Goosehead

Spoke with Federer too, he told me he was going to use spaghetti strings made out of actual real spaghetti..also definitely a game changer.

No, you don't. You just need good technique and timing. Little kids with zero muscles used to use 14 oz. wood racquets with no problems whatsoever.

Agreed. I started out as a kid using the Puma Becker Super and the Prestige mid. At a young age would I have played better with a tweener racquet? Possibly. But those sticks demanded proper mechanics and made me into a better player. Forces you to have full strokes from the get go.
