Spoke with RFRF the other day and he said he definitely knows whats going on with Rogers racquet. It's only seconds away, if not microseconds from being announced.

I hope not but it could be ages before his new racket hits the market. From the moment Fed decides that it is yay, Wilson will have to come up with a paint job, name and marketing BS, then they will need to do a shoot with Fed holding the new PJ, not to forget supplying Fed with the new PJs for tournament play. Don't see it happening until the clay season.

I have been told that they will release/or unveiled before wimby. The PJ is being finalized right now ,which means that if any claims to have held the racket already is playing with us.

Two models will release this year, with more in 2015

It's obvious that the PJ will be almost identical to the current Pro Staff line. Pro Staff is a name that sells racquets. Wilson are even calling the six one a "Pro Staff Six One".

What's the benefit of the thinner beam again?

No idea, but my first (and current) stick is a Diablo Mid. I've tried switching to a lot of 20+ mm beams and really just don't like it. For me it's probably old age (24 this year) setting in, disliking change etc.

... That's because they are Pro Staffs. That line started with the Pro Staff 6.1 Classic.

I thought that Wilson stopped using the Pro Staff on the Six One's with the release of the K Factor in 2007.

Wimby makes sense because even under current form, the drawn out European clay season will be tough on the old man :) Unlikely that Wilson will gamble releasing the racket to mediocre results on court

So I just watched Federer's post match interview against Tursunov, he metioned that he is meeting Wilson again and may be tweaking the specs again. Sounds like Fed has popped and now he can't stop

Federer must be reading the "Racquets" forum on this board and is now a certified racquet geek like the rest of us here. ;)

Guys guys.....just ask RFRF, he knows everything about the racquet. Stop wondering yourselves and PM the person.

Case closed. He is inches away from knowing .

What does he exactly NOT like about his current racket ? he is playing better than ever and playing and beating up on everybody even Novak. Looks like racket is already perfect for him.

I can hardly wait till Wilson releases the new mighty Fed racquet, then we can all buy one and we'll stop speculating about it.

But if their smart, they won't do that because that would stop the endless "buzz" (bickering, guessing, projecting, analyzing).

He didn't really say, he just said I'm meeting with Wilson again which may leads to the specs changing a little bit......let me see if I can find the transcript

I think the PJ wouldn't be white-based, but that's just me. Because if a 98 square inch racket is white, it looks huge and cumbersome and disgusting.

I like the Blx90 ; the PS90 is good for serve but strange for everything else...
And during tournaments any bad player is using now such big baseball bats, it is so difficult to defend with the BLX90, something I switch to a bigger head like the last big blades that feel quite nice.

But the ProStaff BLX 100 is white based and that's even bigger.

I hope Wilson chooses PeterFig's red and white design. So much more modern looking. :)

I say Federer's new racquet about 15 feet way. It looks like the Wilson Pro Staff Original 6.0 95 to me! It has a thin beam and has the 9 and 3 o'clock PWI weight system too.

I used to play with that frame. IIRC it's a box beam.

At 20mm, I don't really consider the beam of the PS 6.0 95 Original to be all that thin, especially compared to the 17mm beam on the PS 6.0 85 Original. When you play with both side-by-side you really notice how thick the beam is on the 95.

I am just skeptical that even if Roger settles on the racquet spec. How do we know for sure Wilson is going to release the new line (or new PS model) in that exact same spec? I would think that Wilson would rather release racquets in more "generic" specifications that make it more "playable" for the general public.

Profit margin drives everything IMHO

Similar situation with Fed's Nike Vapor line. Nike chose not to release the exact model with the carbon fiber shank plate to keep the price down; making the shoes more affordable to the general public.

Just my $0.02...

From Roger's most recent interview in Miami->

"Federer also attributes part of his renaissance to a completed transition to a newer, larger racquet, a delicate process that took him months to incorporate into his game.

“I feel I do have easier power [with the racquet]," he said. "It's actually a big switch, bigger than people think it is, because it's a much bigger head frame, it's wider beam, and I really enjoy this new racquet.

“I think it's also part of the reason that I am playing so well right now.”

So there have been many factors which have contributed to his improvement in form, and "part of the reason" he's playing better now is due to his racket (he says). :)

If Wilson has this(profit) in mind, they should release the exact same model Roger uses because there will be huge demand for this racquet, I can assure you. They don't even have to do any more marketing/advertising because it has already been done during the past half year. Once it is released, it will sell out in a few weeks. It will be hard for Wilson to meet the demands, in fact.

I disagree. I would get Roger's new racquet (if its in the exact same specs) but I wouldn't purchase another one. I think it is too demanding for me to play. Well not unless I'm a hardcore collector and my purpose is to hang them in my wall.

Look at how the Pure Drives and Aeropro's around. They sell so well because they're more playable to the public.

I'm not so sure about that. Wilson sold millions of all the previous versions of the Tour 90s and most of them were not the exact model that Federer used. I think people will buy it as long as it LOOKS like the model that Federer uses.

With the new lawsuit, I hope it's the real deal.

/crosses fingers

Could be the closest thing we see to a pro stock being sold as retail.

I don't think Wilson or any other racquet manufacturer will release a top flight tour players racquet that is his/her specs.

How many people could play with it? I think they try this several time before. The first that I knew was the Dunlop G200 Max that both Graf and McEnroe use. It was just to hard for most people to even play a set with because it weigh too much for the recreational player.

Another was the KProstaff 88 which many advanced players purchased but that is like less then 1% of the whole tennis playing universe.

The tennis marketing department will just do the same as before; make the graphs the same as Federer racquet and lighten up the frame and make it so that 15% of the recreational player can hit with it since it will be an advance players racquet like the 90 BLX tour is.

Some casual tennis fans around me are waiting for this new racket. And there are millions of rec players waiting for this racket as well. Also, looks like pro stocks are not as unplayable as a lot of people believe. Just have a look at this post.

I had the opportunity of going into the stringers room at the tournament, which was pretty cool! One of the main stringers is the dad of a player I have matched up against a few times and we also were able to practice on the grounds, as well as the kid warming up a lot of the players.

Anyways, Im sure a lot of you would have really investigated many things there but I thought I would share a few of my observations.

I was able to hold and air swing the Rafa, Delpo and Gasquet racquets. All three were not very heavy in mass or swing weight. In fact, they were telling me how only a few of the doubles players use the swingweights everyone seems to think so many of the players have; the upper 300's to 400. These three racquets I held and swung were not any heavier than anything you could buy online at TW. The Rafa racquet was basically the same weight as any aerpro but a very small amount heavier. Delpo was stringing Alu Power at 58, Gasquet was 50 or lower with Big Banger Original, and Rafa was using RPM blast. Gasquet did have a somewhat unique racquet I thought though. I could have looked closer, but it seemed extra length and was just different somehow in the head and throat. This was also a light racquet, was definitely 12 ounces strung or less.

Almost every tournament player was using either Alu power, RPM, or a hybrid with one of the two.

Roger may modify the specs to his liking, but if you think about k-factor tour 90 which was the true Federer's racket, if the new racket is more playable that that one, it should be playable for a lot of rec players as well. I am confident the new Federer racket will sell more than any rackets in history. It's a no brainer.

I have the feeling that the new racquet will be more playable than the K90. It's bigger, and it may have lower swingweight for less stress on his back on serves.

I disagree. Tons of recreational players used the Dunlop Max 200G back in the 80's and 90's and many used them very well. They were not heavy at all compared to most other racquets of that era. And for people coming from wood racquets (like McEnroe and myself), they actually felt very light.

Remember the Wilson TV commercial in 1984 in which Jimmy Connors touts how light the ProStaff 85 was? At 12.8 oz., it's considered heavy today but back then it was considered feather light.

The KPS88 wasn't even close to Sampras' specs too.
Correct. It still wasn't heavy enough for Sampras so he had to add lots of lead tape to it. Some people forget that Sampras had his PS 85s leaded up to a swingweight of 400.
