I can already hear the excuses if Federer was to win this year.
The year of the blister.

Honestly if Federer wins the FO(he's always the underdog against Nadal on clay, especially here in FO but he has a small chance to pull off an upset) I honestly don't care what excuses will anyone make.If it happens they can all whine as much as they want then,I couldn't care less.

I am watching the Mathieu vs. Schwank match on channelsurfing, and they are playing it at fast forward speed. I guess this match will be over in 20 min!

Chardy and Tursunov match is quite interesting, although I would guess most are tuned into Odesnik and Djokovic. Never seen Chardy play before, and it's nice another one who serves and volleys more than the average, really smooth ground strokes as well though the 2nd serve could use lot of work. He was a junior winner of the singles at Wimbledon before also. Not always a perfect indicator of transfer of a great player who endures over onto the ATP side, but a good sign.

Odesnik looks good,, i smell an upset coming.

OK i got it, our NEW upset Davis cup team against Spain. Wayne Odesnik for #1 singles and Ginepri for #2 singles and Bryans for Doubles. We should be able to upset Spain, 3 matches to 2.

In theory you might have it, but in reality Wayne or Robbie (correct me if I am wrong) have no DC experience, but you might be on to something. :?

Yes, Chardy just took the 1st set, and playing well. Tursunov has his usual glum demeanor. I should say grim, not glum. He has a really bad record this year after losing the 1st set.

Well he won the boys single title at Wimbledon in 2005 I think the year was, so he can play certainly. He does hit very cleanly. It's bad but I was surprised he was French before I saw which flag he played under. Don't exactly know why, I guess I thought he was Argentine or something. Up a break now in the 2nd set.

I did some research and yes, he was a decent junior or mor than just decent with the Wimbledon title under belt. He is quite tall at 6'2" and has power of both wings aparently. Likes to volley. Tursunov said prior this match that he is aware of the power shots this guy posseses and that this is a tough matchup no matter the guy is not great ranked. Also he turned pro very late, at 19 years of age, and is a fairly young guy with 21.

After Dmitri lost the 1st, its just a matter of time. He hits balls now and is already turning away, not even looking to see if they make. Just assuming they miss. Lamentable attitude. Haven't checked Chardy draw though to see who he might have upcoming, and if he can seriously go deeper.

And I'm still hearing about weak draws, conspiracy and lucky Federer.

I heard "conspiracy" from some Federer fan who started some thread about that, I can´t remember any Nadal fan using that term (at least not seriously).
You can look at the draws and judge by yourself. By the way, Nadal is the one who has been said to get joke draws all the time from lots of people on this board so maybe you´re confusing things.
You can see which player was more affected by rain delays (again) and had to play 3 full matches in 3 consecutive days (again).
You can see which top player didn´t win any matches by retirement or withdrawal from his opponents this year.
There´s a big difference between excuses (i.e. Nadal´s timeout in Hamburg made him win the 1st set of the final) and reality (facts I pointed out before).
Maybe some people live in a wonder world where pro players are never really injured and if they ask for a timeout it´s bad gamesmanship (because if they´re really injured they should retire from the match... but if they retire then they will be called worse things because they didn´t give their opponent a proper win). So I guess they should stay on the court making their injuries worse.
I know you´re one of the most reasonable Fed fans so maybe I shouldn´t have said this quoting your post but that´s how the conversation went here.

I haven't been able to see any of this match. Is it competitive? Sometimes with Tursunov he can give up after losing a tight first set.

As said a few times, Tusunov already has his typical careless demeanor after losing the first. Its no longer competitive. As usual he is hitting a few winners still but not bothering to do much else.

Almagro is who Chardy will have next if he comes through, which looks certain. Tough customer.

LOL Tursunov just broke Chardy in the 3rd, looked surprised he had strung together enough shots to do so. But about to be broken right back the very next game. This is so obvious. It's not a matter of Chardy playing so outstanding, though he is doing very well indeed, Dmitri is just cruising and lacksidaisical.

Before I could even finish typing this, Dmitri was broken back. (mountain)

Triple match point Chardy...

game, set, match. Tursunov can stomp home now.

And the dumb ass commentator just said, "What a great win! Imagine, Chardy has never done anything except win a few matches on the Challengers. " How stupid and uninformed! He should have been reading along here and got some proper info on the guy LOL

Chardy has won 6 straight sets against seeded players. Only one of those (the first set vs. Tursunov) has been close, and even in that one he won the TB 7-1.

Great win for the Chardy guy. Anyways Schwank blew two set points, saved two match points and is facing another match point. It should go to the fifth for sure but will it ?

Nadal fans TheTruth and Morrisey(I've seen Morrisey state a couple of times how Federer has a cupcake draw)were stating that it's a conspiracy,I do respect them both as posters(while most of the time I do have a different opinion then TheTruth especially concerning Federer she's one of the few posters here with whom you can have a civil argument as I have never seen her resort to namecalling and personal attacks)but I disagree with them both on this one.Draws are random,Federer has no influence neither on whom he plays nor on rain and it's not his problem if his opponents retire or withdraw so blaming everything on him or some grand conspiracy against Nadal is a little childish IMO.Also Federer from 2004-2007 had winning records against majority of players of tour and was dominating the game, did he have an easy draw in every single one of his 12 slams? I personally don't like when some people here try to downplay his achievements like he picked up those slams from a tree,no he worked damn hard for every single one of those slams and each one of them is well deserved.

As for medical timeouts and retirements we as tennis spectators sometimes cannot be sure whether a player is really injured or is trying to break his opponents momentum(we can only rely on what we see and what players tell after the match),same with retirements we cannot in all cases be sure whether an opponent could'nt continue or whether he retired for different reasons. So in both cases we have to form are own opinion and judge what happened. My opinion on Federer-Nadal Hamburg final is that considering the facts that Nadal asked for timeout after he broke Federer first time when he was serving for the set, that he had a grueling clay season and a hard fought 3 hour match the day before and also my opinion on what kind of person Nadal is I reached a coclusion(not a fact only my opinion) that Nadal's timeout was legitimate. In Novak's case considering the fact that he was cruising through the draw before he met Federer in the semis, that he played very good in the first set,his camp's statements about Federer(the King is dead,Novak will never lose to Federer again etc. shows me their attitude towards Federer),Novak's questionable sportmanship(in my opinion),considering that he won the Rome not long after Monte Carlo I concluded that he retired from the match because his ego couldn't stomach a loss(again only my opinion which could be wrong, not a fact)to the man he supposedly already dethroned(even though that man is still number one).

Well, that's how you play a decisive tie-breaker. Wilander can't complain, both players giving it all, going for the big shots. Good win for PHM and good show by Schwank.

Yeah,Wilander seemed very excited.I generally enjoy wathching Mathieu, great ballstriker IMO although mentally fragile sometimes.

Wow. Llodra, PHM, Chardy. There are three Frenchmen out of 8 players left in the bottom of the draw. With two more possible in the top.

Nice for them.

Yup, this is the year of the French and the Americans.

The Armada is holding its own, too, but that is less of a surprise.
I expect Ferrer to come through and Robredo to lose against Stepanek (Robredo's passing shots have been terrible as of lately.)

Only Gonzo remains of the South Americans, though, and he has a tough contender in Stan the Man.

As the French say, the french players "ate some lion". I would be worried if I was Djoko. Doesn't he meet PHM next? I remember the match between PHM and Nadal at RG. It was amazing, IMO hardest match Nadal has ever had at RG.

Not to mention that their top ranked guys are not playing as Tsonga and Gasquet are out before it started. Good, now they ( especially Gasquet ) can watch Chardy giving free lesons in how to play tennis. Chardy is the most noable one for me, he beat Nalby and Tursunov and played really good today.
