I had a lot of doubts this time last year when it comes to Halep, felt like she was mostly just a backboard at that tournament waiting for things to happen. But as this French Open progressed I was getting confident, because when she shows all of her abilities and shotmaking like now, she is a stunning player to watch and a worthy world number 1. Congratulations to her on finally winning that Slam title, so well deserved.

Win or lose, Halep is always there in big matches. She doesn’t quit. She lost last year, but won this time.

It certainly feels good seeing Halep winning after all the ebbs and flows she went through. The woman fought, tried hard as hell, went through some very rough patches and, now, she finally sees all that immense effort paying off. Congrats to her!
(But, because I'm human, it also does make me a bit sad seeing her winning, knowing full well that Radwanska will probably never reach this same goal. It stings a bit as a fan to see your favourite as an eternal bridesmaid, while seeing all those brides happy and fulfilled! )

Oh and congrats to @ScentOfDefeat. You suffered like hell seeing all those missed opportunities, but God decided to bless Simona after all. Save some champagne for Portugal though, the future world champions! Hasta el empate siempre!

Yes, but from looking at myself at under 9 stone I was more repulsed by my reflection than I was when I was a fat sod at probably pushing 16 stone &busting out of 40 inch trousers. I was nowhere near as bad as she was either. As much as being heavily overweight/obese is horrible to look at I prefer it to people looking Anorexic.

........well decisions and judgements are always better with hindsight. Halep stock has just gone up a lot, a slam title is a whole new level of achievement, it's marketable. 3 losses then a win, that's likely a marketable message for some company out there.

Oh i totally agree that Halep won it. I don't make excuses for any player. I don't care if it is Seles stabbed on court. If you lose, you lose. The scoreboard is what it is.

Stephens needs better fitness. She's literally almost there. But she needs to be able to sustain her level of counterpunching more than 10 games. She needs to sustain it for like 20 games.

But that requires a better team. She needs someone like a Jez Green or Gil Reyes or any decent Spanish coach. But Halep is definitely there now. Halep's fitness was always there, but her mental fortitude wasn't.

But it is clear Halep has arrived now.

Wow, I thought she was going to blow it yet again when she went down a set and a break but something obviously clicked with her to stop that and turn it around. For that last set and a half, she really did play like the world #1 and got the infamous monkey off her back by finally securing her 1st Slam title in her 4th final, 3rd at her favourite tournament.
