Indeed.Fognini wasn't even attempting to move after 7-7, yet brainless Montanes kept hitting straight to him setting up these shots for Fognini to hit some insane winners.

About the rule, I think in this case it was the right thing to do. Fog was in obvious pain.

A lot of posters were really angered by Fogini, but it really is not his fault. It is the tournament officials that messed up and allowed Fogini to take the timeout.

We don't really know what was said exactly.

It was quite clear on the feed I was watching that the official (not chair umpire lady, but tournament official) came out and was asking the physio "Is is cramps? If it is cramps, he has to play" I heard this VERY clearly.

I did not hear exactly what Fognini said in response, but it was certainly to the effect of it not being cramps, complete with head shaking and hand waving.

The ONLY defense for Fognini not blatantly lying to his own advantage is if you take the position that he wasn't actually cramping but it was some other sudden injury which inexplicably looked EXACTLY like cramps.
