To add to that, over those years his losses in the claycourt Masters Series have come to:
Rafael Nadal (SF), Juan Monaco (R32), Paul-Henri Mathieu (R64), Fernando Verdasco (R16), Fernando Verdasco (R16), Radek Stepanek (R32), Rafael Nadal (QF), Roger Federer (QF), Igor Andreev (R64), Roger Federer (QF), Tommy Robredo (QF), Jose Acasuso (R64), Roger Federer (QF), Tomas Berdych (R64), Rafael Nadal (SF), Guillermo Coria (QF).
Again, a respectable list, not too many losses to complete unknowns, though occasionally there's some unexpected ones - but also a lack of dominating performances, and he hasn't been able to take his chances when he gets them. (Remarkable similarity to his Roland Garros performances, actually.)
I suppose I should expect the same thing this week - either a tough loss to Fernando Verdasco in the semis (Verdasco leads their head to head 6-3, having won their last 3 meetings), or a straightforward loss to Nadal in the finals. (That would still be his best result yet. )
