Holger reminds me so much of 2002-2003 Fed. Has all the weapons and is so close to putting it all together. This match is basically the equivalent of 2003 Fed vs an experienced Djokovic

Not shocking to anyone who knows a modicum about tennis and has watched Novak on clay this year. He should skip the clay season next year. Worked for Fraud.

Listen, I love them both, but in no universe is Holger Rune (or any player) anywhere near the level of 2003 Fed. Roger was clearly and massively the better player on all surfaces.

Actually, it is not shocking to anyone who has been watching Rune this year. Some of us have followed his every match this season, he would have won MC also, had the long late match with Sinner didn't work against him.

Novak about to explode.
Let him do it after Rune wins the match. I still don't trust him to hold onto 2 breaks. He's lost matches twice this year from that position in the third set and in the AO against Rublev in the fifth. He was up 6-0 in the super breaker in the fifth set at the AO against Andrei and choked that match away.

He's a big-match player, though. I imagine he's way more focused against Djokovic compared to someone like Rublev.

What % chance do you give Djo of capturing the Coupe des Mousquetaires
He performs better in slams but there will be Alcaraz, Rune, Sinner, potentially Nadal too. I give him a 15-20% chance. I think he has a 75-80% of winning Wimbledon though.

inb4 he wins RG and he loses in the first round at Wimbledon to Zapata Miralles.

Most people in this thead are Novak fans and haven't watched anything of Holger. The kid is damn good and will win multiple slams. This is like watching young Edberg or Fed - it was obvious they were going to be great players. Holger is absolutely the real deal, not like Berdych or Tsonga.

I do believe, he will not have that problem against Djokovic

It's all mind and stamina at this point. His actual tennis game is good enough to be a champion. He seems like he relishes these opportunities against very top players, as where he sometimes gets a little nervy when the player isn't as exalted and there's more expectation that he win. If he closes this out, he will have beaten Djokovic at two majors on two different surfaces. Plus, he has a Masters title. He's still obviously young, but a Slam or very deep run is the logical next step.

I mean, I'm Team Earth's Mightiest, but boy as Rune made an impression on me. He reminds me of why I became a fan of Djokovic at around the same age. The self belief is unreal, and yes, he is going to dominate this game for years to come. No question about it.

I would wager most people would remember Rune from the Paris masters and saw him there but yeah, he's a talented player who knows how to move and when to approach ect but he's a minor headcase, he lost the second set from a bad call and thankfully has recovered but without that rain delay who knows?

Also let's be real about Novak today, he has been AWFUL. So many UE and poor shots from him.

You can really see the respect Rune has for Djokovic, celebrating points in a pretty reserved and controlled way.

Hopefully Real Madrid beat Man City tonight. Otherwise It’s a bad day.
