Rafa was very cagey in the presser. He said he doesn't know if rest or more practice is what he needs. Said the foot has been bad since he came back from the rib and that there's nothing to be done, he will play Roland Garros and try to manage it
I guess Nadal has that excuse in his pocket forever now.

Novak djokovic has benefited from his serve at his age. Meanwhile nadal still seems defensive and has no placement on his serve on a consistent basis. Can’t win free cheap points ala djokovic
I don't understand why Nadal didn't improve his serve too.

Did he say when it started bothering me? The problem with rafaelito these days is that he’s inconsistent from set to set.

Maybe it's time for Rafa to retire... At some point he has to realize it's not worth it anymore
He definitely should. The more he plays from now on, the more he hurts his legacy. Because the local Federer and Djokovic fans will keep saying this is absolute peak Nadal, just the tour got too strong for him.

At this point i wonder if he would risk further damage . If it’s that bad.

His foot isn't like that, in theory more play helps and stagnancy hurts. Just sucks to see Rafa losing to someone like Shapovalov who wouldn't sniff 4 games in a set against a fit Rafa on clay

He's the reigning AO champion.
You will always find a reason to why this should be considered peak Nadal. Just like 90% of the forum, you write every year that Djokovic is done (only for him to win 3 slams every year), while Nadal is always in form, and beating him is always a great achievement.

Weren't you writing that the AO winner this year can't be taken seriously? If so, stop bringing it to hype Nadal's form.

For the last 10 years many Rafa fans have said here constantly, "he will win RG until he's 40-41, no one will stop him!" Of course father time remains undefeated.

Rafa will be 36 in a couple weeks, that's just plain ancient in tennis terms, even with training and nutritional advances. Like with Fed, Rafa can still play an outstanding match once in awhile, but his lows will become lower and the highs much less frequent. It's just the natural trajectory for an athlete, even an elite one like Nadal.

You mean their meeting in Rome last year on this exact same court which Nadal barely won in a 3rd set tiebreaker never happened??? The same tournament which Nadal won? :-D :-D :-D
You should learn to give some respect to these young guys.

I see there are still some children who are pretending that Footdal 2021 was fit Rafa lol

You must be on drugs. Nadal is ONLY playing because Djokovic is right on top of his *** in the Slam count. 21 Slams is not enough for Nadal to retire as GOAT. Djokovic is coming back to form very quickly by the looks of it and has Nadal in his sights.

And just like that Novak is in pole position for this week and Roland Garros as well.

Not that I am upset about it, he has been inevitable for years now. Rafa got his fairytale in Australia that none of us saw coming. (y)

Speedy recovery to our Bull. And congratulations to Shapovalov.

By that standard, Sampras' entire career was cheap. Same with Serena Williams.

If Djokovic wins RG, it will taint Nadal's AO win. Nadal never beat the king of Melbourne to win AO 2022.

There was no mention of Footdal in that Rome 2021 thread. It became a talking point some time after he lost to Djokovic at RG.

We don't need footdal to be mentioned to see that Nadal's numbers on clay last season in every statistical category were worst of his career, even worse than 2015

No one's legacy is based on how a few internet posters frame things, nevermind that I have not seen anyone at all say Nadal is currently at his peak.

Like I said. YOU yourself never mentioned anything about his foot issues or his form when he WON Rome 2021. Nor did you mention anything about his foot or form when he was smashing Djokovic like an amateur in that first set at RG. It was routine Nadal. Don't be bitter.

90% of the forum believe 2021 was the best ever Nadal. Yeah, the one who was hitting double faults all the time, and got gassed after a few hours of play. They will keep writing that Nadal is peak in 2022 as well. They even have a "proof" of it, as he won AO this year. Interesting enough, these same users don't think Djokovic is at his peak even when he wins 3 slams every year.

I'm sure he was perfectly healthy and just happened to produce his worst clay season ever, and then immediately took 6 months off, all for fun. You seem like a smart one :) (y)

It was time long ago. I honestly don't understand why he keeps putting himself through this. He's a young man - there are other things out there for him.

I'm shocked that Denis won. I saw the first set and shut it off. I have to eat my words. Even if Nadal is/was injured, it's getting tiresome for him to use that excuse. I guess Denis must have picked up his game and stayed with it mentally to win. So, good on him. QF for the first time in Rome.
Didnt he play SF in 2020 and lost an epic to Diego
