His foot isn't like that, in theory more play helps and stagnancy hurts. Just sucks to see Rafa losing to someone like Shapovalov who wouldn't sniff 4 games in a set against a fit Rafa on clay
So he wasn’t fit at Rome’21 when he won the title? And that lack of fitness was the cause for losing not only your 4-game quota but 12 more for a total of 16. And that fitness deficiency suddenly went away while beating Zedraffe, Opelka and Joe Kovic. Oh, that Doctor Cotorro is a wizard to bring him back from MPs down last year to the same 4-game Shapo!
A good watch. Some great point construction from Nadal early on, point starting at 0:10 nicely demonstrates how he kills you with angles; cc backhand angling away from the service line followed up by the DTL winner — no chance. And solid reactions from Shapo at the net; volleying against Nadal would be hell.
Surprised to see Choker Shapo managed to beat Nadal after getting bread sticked. It looks unlikely now that Nadal wins FO. Alcaraz and Djokovic are playing better than him.

Even in that first set, Shapo got ahead in rallies and then messed them up in addiron to Nadal’s play. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen Nadal dominate the first set like that on clay and then not be surprised when his opponent came back.
I only watched until mid of second set. Nadal was painting the lines in the first, but realistically, no one can do that for the entire match. I expected Shapovalov to come back, but didn’t expect him to win.
