Djokovic has an easy draw so he should keep progressing but the buck stops at Nadal, assuming Nadal gets by Shapovalov, Fognini.

Do we dare to hope that Djokovic is on the way to rekindling some kind of fire?
I thought so after the Nishikori match, and picked Djok to win in 2 over Edmund. We all know how that turned out.

And Rafa losing to Thiem felt like a seismic shift in the game. It's too soon to be sure that it was anything but a blip, but it had all the makings—to me—of a young gun finally figuring out how to beat the old Master. And it wasn't really even all that close.

Veni, vidi,vino-lots! I like a nice Chianti to wash down some Spanish liver and fava bean sauce over pasta. But it's gonna be just an appetizer portion to prepare my palate for having another lefty friend for dinner on the weekend.

Ciao!

The breeze in Belgrade is blowing hard. Some Mallorcan patience is required to steady the ship.

LOL, no it didn't. Didn't Thiem beat Nadal in Rome last year only to be embarrassed at the FO? The same thing will happen this year. Thiem has the game to beat Nadal but he has to be firing perfectly and the problem is he's just too inconsistent to do it constantly or when it matters most. There's no reason to believe anything has changed in that respect.

Shapovalov beat Nadal on hc but I just don't think he'll be able to repeat that performance on clay when Nadal will be on high revenge mode.

Lol. ARV haven't won a set in five meetings. He's not going to start now. Djokovic has an easy/lucky draw. After this his next opponent would be Kei/Kohly and we all know what that means.

He should make the SF easily.

He'll actually trouble Novak here. ARV is good from the baseline on clay, and Novak shots right now don't have a lot pop to dominate baseline points.
Do you think Novak is better now than in Australia? He played ARV and he was pretty poor. I know that was HC, but still. Plus, ARV hasn't been in good form. I don't know how he won those tiebreaks against Isner.

We shall soon find out.
