I will say that I fully enjoyed this match. I wish that Shapovalov had been able to serve it out. That didn't happen. But, I feel very strongly he's made incredible strides since starting with Youzhny and those have been on display in recent week. Could he have won? Yes. And, that in itself is remarkable given that clay isn't a surface he particularly likes and DS is one of the best returners, and clay courters in the world. Denis acquitted himself well. The final step proved to be too much, but this too was a wonderful step forward for him. Well done!

I liked their 2019 Miami match but Shapo was a bit too wild there, I feel like if they played today the quality and shotmaking would be insane

every game would be a highlights reel and I would re-watch that match at least several times

I am almost certain Federer and Shapovalov are going to cross paths again at some point, and the shotmaking will be insane. I think a medium pace surface would be best.

Well, true, but also Shapovalov is still quite raw, and both Schwartzman and Carreno Busta have a significant age advantage against him. Given him two or three years, and he will likely be able to pull out matches like these two recent defeats, even on courts that favor defenders.

He was right in there until the tie-break when he tried to force some winners. Even if the shots that he hit went in, Diego was right there and would have hit it back. There was no need to go for those shots at that time. Maybe because of fatigue.

LOL! I grew up in southern CA and saw Tatum and John in person together at least 4 times. And I saw Mac in person countless times at the LA Forum and in San Jose. He was better looking than she was in person by far. She was a heroin addicted POS with acne, a hideous 'tude and unattractive without professional hair and make up. Mac could have pulled many chicks in 1983 without a dollar in his wallet. I hated him because he routinely beat my man Ivan like a drum, but the truth's the truth.
