@James P

Just did a dive into the teens in the men's draw. Now that Fils and Van Assche have turned 20 (and Van Assche has dropped out of the top 100), we are back down to three teens in the top 100: Mensik, Michelsen, and Shang. The first two of those three both let slip two-set leads today and ended up losing - Mensik faced very tough opposition in Bublik, and even Lloyd Harris isn't easy. Shang got a good win against Cristian Garin.

There is currently only one teen ranked between 101 and 200: Dino Prizmic. He lost in round 2 of qualifying. 17-year-old Joao Fonseca - the youngest man in the top 500 - lost in round 1 of qualifying.

Henry Searle, who is 18 and ranked #568, got a wild card and plays Marcos Giron tomorrow.

So, two teens left after less than a day's play (Shang and Searle). This is quite different from how things used to be in the first few years I followed Wimbledon, in the late 80s.

Searle just lost to Giron, so round 2 of Wimbledon men's singles will have one teenager in it.

In 1985, two of the four slam winners (Becker at Wimbledon and Edberg at the Australian Open) were teens at the time they won and a third winner (Wilander at Roland Garros) was 20.

There are a couple of 20-year-olds still in the Wimbledon draw, but not all that many:

- Nobody in the top half.
- Mpetshi Perricard (who won his round 1 earlier today) - he turns 21 on Monday 8 July, so on the day he'd play his R4 match if he makes it that far.
- Fils (who also won his round 1 earlier today) - he only turned 20 on 12 June, so is the youngest player left apart from Shang.

NOBODY IN BETWEEN MEDVEDEV AND DJOKOVIC. LOST GENS!

All four women's semi-finalists will be in their late 20s. No golden oldies, as the oldest player left is 29 (Svitolina), but the youngest is 25 (Rybakina).

ONLY ONE PERSON BETWEEN MUSETTI AND DJOKOVIC. LOST GENS!

Rybakina is already 25?
I thought she was a few years younger.

I always check the players' birthdays before I post this. That's not to say I never make mistakes. Her birthday is 17 June 1999, so she turned 25 shortly before the tournament began. (I only list their birthday if it is strictly within the 14 days of the tournament; hence I noted that Mpetshi Perricard turned 21 on Monday and that Wozniacki will turn 34 tomorrow. So, I didn't note that she only turned 25 recently, nor for example that Sinner turns 23 soon).

One 22 year old Italian is going to make the SF, by George. Just not the expected one.

Given that Musetti is now 22, it's high time he made a slam SF. Just would have expected it to be Roland Garros.

I think he definitely has the game to win Roland Garros one day. Among players his age or so, Alcaraz is obviously better than him on clay, but I'm not convinced Sinner is much better on clay, if at all. If Musetti can improve his fitness, he has a good shot to get a title there eventually.

Writing this late, it was very noticeable how both the top and the bottom end of the R3 age range got chopped prior to R4.

A middle-aged dominated event, with late 20s heavily overrepresented relative to early 20s.

Fairly similar age distribution to the men's event: No teens, nobody in the second half of their 30s, mostly 20-somethings, considerably more late 20-somethings than early 20-somethings.

It’s crazy to me that Gauff is still at the youngest end of this list. She feels like a total veteran of the tour at this point.

It's really mid 20's heavily overrepresented compared to other age groups. 12/16 aged 23-27.

As ive said before; it seems 30 isnt the new 25 after all, for those who believe human nature can change in 20 years.

Big3(4) was just a huge aberration, helped by some weak later generations.

I just don't agree with this, as I've said before, too. I think the age range shows a clear change from the past that isn't just about the big 3/4. It's not as much of a shift as it was, but there are still way more older players making later rounds now, and far fewer teenagers. No point us continuing to argue it, though!
