Sign me up! Ever since my stock prince dampener kept popping off I've been using a rubber band. Works Great! BTW...how come this group is so much bigger than the REAL dampener group? :)

Sweet... 88 cents well invested. I wonder if I'll be on social security when my supply runs out :)
Unfortunately, the rubber dries out over a couple of years, and then the band will snap if you try to tie it on. You can't buy a lifetime supply, unless you're planning to die in a few years.

I live in the PI, unfortunately and as far as i know we don't have any number #64 rubberbands so I improvised, see the pics. Add me up please, thanks!

P.S. I'll post the close up pics ASAP.

So What is the Final Verdict on the Z-Rubber band that is sold out there ???
Have any of you heard of a "Gamma Slipknot"? I got one yesterday and its supposedly better than rubber bands. its like a black thick rubber string that you tie in a double knot on your racquet:?:?

I remember seeing it on TW a couple years ago and I thought it looked kinda funky. The NCode line had so many more rackets than KFactor!

Well, I'm back here on TW Forums, Member #37 :). Anyways here's the racquet I've been playing for about a year now. Sold my Wilson NCode NSix-One 95 and my Babolat Pure Drive then used the money to buy this lovely racquet, the Fischer M-Speed Pro No.1 98 UL.

I am believer in rubber bands so count me in too! I prefer to "thread" the rubber band just below the last cross string like a worm. I loop one end (mains #4) and then thread it through 10 mains and tie off on mains #15 (18x20 stringbed). It does a great job "dampening" excessive pinging and looks less clunky in my opinion. Give it a try! Cheers!:)

and technically that is an illegal placement for a vibe dampener

phucng_10, dont know if i asked you this already
having the rubber band in that setup you are using, what does it do for you, does it give you enough sound dampening? or does it give you just enough to get some feedback still??
have you tried placing the rubberband on the mains only?

What about that Z-rubberband, does that work better than regular rubber band ??
i dont know exacttly what they look like
i saw someone once posted a pic here of a rubber band that had a bunch of z's printed on them, i think it was like a promotional item or something, if thats the one your talking about, then i would say it plays the same, just simply because it was a simple everyday rubberband with printed logos on it
as to how much one rubberband dampens more than the other, i dont think you'll notise much
all rubberbands all they do it dampen sound, not so much racquet vibration, now unless you are using some significanttly small rubber band as some of the posters here are trying, i dont think you'll notise much difference
the #64 rubberband that everyeone keeps talking about seems to be the most comfortable rubber band to use because of its size and thickness, anything smaller and its hard to wrapp arround the strings,
anything bigger and it leaves too much of an overhang
go to your local wal--mart staore and look for what they have, they sometimes dont have the #64 bands, but you should be able to find a similar sized rubberband to use, after all, its a simple rubber band that quiets the sound on the rcaquets dramatically, thats why its so popular here

Office Depot vs. Office Max #64 Rubberbands...Initial Impressions.

Over a year ago I bought a 110ct bag of #64s from Office Depot. Recently ran out, and with a .01 Mini Sharpie (limit three) coupon in hand I made my way to the local Office Max. Each store has their own branded bands. Here's my thoughts comparing the two (still have a few Office Depots left):

-Office Max (1/4lb bag, $1.99): The new ones I got today. Color is like coffee with just a touch of cream in it. Almost translucent like lightly creamed coffee as well. Doing a highly scientific finger-thumb stretch, I found the OM bands to offer noticeably less resistance than the OD bands.

-Office Depot (110ct bag, $???): Despite being a year old these offered up noticeably more resistance than the OM bands, despite being nearly identical in width and length. Color was much more "creamy", like the color of a latte. Much less--not at all--translucent.

Initial Conclusion: I'm heavily leaning in favor of the Office Depot bands. The creamy color is much more satisfying and confidence inspiring (the others have the color of really old rubber bands that are brittle and about to break) than the OM bands. The more resistant OD band would seemingly leave the user with much more control over actual dampening, and leave shorter, less danglely ends after being tied off. The zip-lock bag is of much higher quality and easier to operate. And being labeled 110ct vs 1/4lb leaves much less to chance in terms of numbers. Winner: Office Depot.

fynny, i agree with you bedlejuice22, but we did have to have someone make such a comperason to show everyone that we mean buisness on this club
we're not just a bunch or rubberband flinging idiots, but rather a very thorough bunch,,,,,of idiots! :)

thanks bossass for the comperason! but to be completely honest, i think very few of us will go to lengths to get the ideal rubberband, so long as is #64 or similar
here are some of the most likely ways people have mentioned getting their hand on some:

-they jack them from work, seem to be a very good source
-from post office, possible if you ask nicely
-wrestle them away from the dog, hard to do at times, depends on the size of the dog, i usually get them when he is sleep
-from the local store
i know i am missing a bunch, maybe we can keep adding to the mosty likely places were people have been able to obtain rubber bands from :)

i wouldn't say he plays with them, he eats them, same as with water ballons, you shold see his poop the next day after a party in my house,, looks like a mutli color pile of **** :)
no joke, dogs will eat just about anything,,
ever leave a freshly opened bubblegum pack next to a dog,, you'll think someone took it, nope, the dog ate the whole thing, wrapper and all :-D

I'm guessing your dog is a puppy? My dog never eats anything anymore besides what we give her. She used to chew on the remote for the TV. She probably ruined about 5 remotes in total. She knows better now though.
