as you all know, the rugby world cup starts in France next month. Lets hear some opinions, of course my hopes are now high while watching Scotland beating ireland in the 46th minute (24 - 6 at this time), Please vote for who you thinks going to win and lets hear some predictions. My pics are Scotland (who i want to win), South Africa (my 2nd favourite country in the world) and Argentina, because their music is so great.

argentina are not yet strong enough to mount a serious, serious challenge for the cup, maybe the next one but Quarterfinals this year would be a great results, especially considering their group

in scotland its about equal, football (soccer) is more popular in england but its still a huge sport, you wont really find the boks or wallabies dominating football, but most european countries play rugby now, its just football is so huge it wont get much publicity, even spain has started playing

if it were the same as football brazil should dominate over South Africa, Australia and New Zeland.... LMAO

Lol I wouldn't exactly say it's an obsession, we all support our teams. The first Chelsea game I went to see we were in the old 2nd division and for the time being we are one of the best teams in the world! i'm just riding the crest of the wave whilst it lasts.

As for Ireland, both sets of grandparents are Irish and rugby has always been their sport so when it comes to rugby it's Ireland.

This would be a better world if Teddy Roosevelt had kept his ban against "gridiron" football in place and rugby had been allowed to grow here.
It's a better sport played by better athletes.
You'll find no steroid ladden three hundred plus pound goons in rugby that can't play more than three downs in a row without getting a hit of oxygen.
Only players that can actually run,tackle and pass.
If you don't think our pro football is boring you've never watched a Lions-Browns game obviously.

Anyway, a scotish accquaintance of mine mentioned that he just gave his wife (a one-legged scottish woman named "Eileen") a driving lesson. I asked him how it went and he replied "it was terrible!" When I inquired as to why, he recounted the event in detail: "it was all going fine until we reached the top of hill and started to proceed down the other side, when the brakes failed!" I asked him: "oh my, what did you do?" whereupon he said that he bellowed to his wife: "hit something cheap!!"

Moments after their accident, an angry scottish mob from the neighbourhood surrounded the car, furious at the damage they caused, but my quick thinking accquaintance immediately took up a collection for damages on the spot....and lo and behold, the scottish crowd miraculously vanished in a flash. This same accquaintance married his wife partly because her birthday is on February 29th, meaning he's only 'on-the-hook' to buy her a birthday present every four years and partly because of her fine looks: why on their first date, they were riding in a taxi and she stuck him as being so beautiful that he could hardly keep his eyes on the meter. Put simply, the difference between this scotsman and a canoe is that a canoe tips.

Let me tell ya 'bout this guy: this guy is so cheap (and dim-witted) that I can get him to latch onto the roof just by telling him: "drinks are on the house." I asked him if rugby was the most popular spectator sport in scotland. He replied: "no, the most popular 'spectator sport' in scotland is the D.T.'s." I thought it curious how he remarked with pride that scots played bagpipes to frighten their enemies--and here I thought it was to annoy their neighbours. Actually he really isn't that cheap. The truth is he likes to donate lots of money to charities, he just wants to do so anoymously. He even 'forgets' to sign his name on cheques. Funny guy though; his greatest fantasy involves two women: one cleaning, the other dusting. Hmmmm....... One time, I went over to play golf at St. Andrews in scotland and thought this sign to be rather telling: "Members will refrain from picking up 'lost balls' until they have stopped rolling." Oh, and about those kilts: I did some research and found out the real reason why scotsmen wear kilts. In 1317, Sandy MacNab won a lady's tartan skirt in a raffle.

ok, just curious, how long did that take you to write? and just to let you know, Scots wore kilts before 1317, as you probably dont know great scottish history, one person you do know will be William Wallace, he was born in 1270, a whole 47 years before your story stated, and if you are interested, its a tradition to be given a kilt on your 21st birthday in your familys tartan. I don't know what the D.T.s are and i thought your post was rather amusing, one of the more entertaining posters i belive, but i cannot be sure as i never read most posts.

5-8th place is my choice for the Pumas. Quarterfinals, but losing there. If they manage to go to the SF, then it's a 4th place, but nothing more :p

Yeah, you never read my post in the 'South Africa' thread :) .....how was SA?

DT = delirium tremens

And NZ for the Cup...I think they deserve it both for the quality and the style of their rugby over the last few years...too many of the other major teams have been mired in negativity and have become a pain to watch, but watching NZ is always a pleasure.

And speaking of Semitics & Scotland, once upon a time, there were these two guys who were were begging for money on a Glasgow sidewalk with baskets in front of each of them. Next to one of the baskets was a Christian Cross and next to the other basket was the Star of David. Well, the man "with the cross" was enjoying a fairly good return (especially considering this was in Scotland) and the man "with the Star of David" unfortunately had precious few coins in his basket.

Nearby, a priest nearby was observing the two men for a few minutes until he finally walked over to the two men. He gently put his arm around the man who had the "Star of David basket" and sympathetically explained: "My son, I'm sorry you've received so few donations, but you should bear in mind that Scotland is overwhelmingly a Christian country. Maybe you might want to reconsider having a Star of David juxtapositioned with a Cross." The man thanked the priest, turned to his "Christian Cross" companion and with a smirk on his face snapped:

"Hey Shlomo, look who's teaching us marketing."

i was dissapointed today by Argentinas performance, Wales are (in my opinion) not a great time and i thought Argentina would challenge them more, oh well, if anyone doesnt know the score it was 27 - 20 to Wales.

well the All Blacks kick off today at 12 or 12:30 uk time and im not even going to precit a score because its hard to predict when its probably going to be completely one sided to NZ.
