Ireland 32 - 17 Namibia, thats a shocker for Ireland, Namibia didnt win, but they were forcing it upon the irish

For me Portugal is already a champion team... I mean these guys are amateurs... Ordinary people lawyers, doctors, business guys that play rugby after-hours ... It's pretty amazing that they got to a professional world cup...I watch them practice because their training facility is next to my tennis courts on my club and all I can say is I bet it takes a lot of will to embrace the sport as they have, I see them training every other day from 8 pm to 10 pm...

hope they'll get away with a win at least...maybe against romania

dont be ridiculous, he saved Scotland from the English and helped us keep our, so called independance. They have his sword in a museum reasonably close to my home, its like 6 foot long:-D

Please, we were just misunderstood tourists, ;) However seeing as scotland appear to of taken over our government now, can we have it back?..
well, England just got humped 36 - 0 (whey) by South africa, good result

You enjoyed that, i knew we'd loose as SA are good but there was nothing from our lads...............

NEW ZEALAND BABY!!!

only because my friend is from there and says that they are the best. And i guess I believe him because all the stats point to it (or at least his...)

That's not a sport, that's just savagery.

I thought american football, boxing, and ufc were brutal.

And looking at videos that display the brutality and 'manliness' isn't the key factor in making it a sport for me.

Not for England. Can anyone explain why South Africa play James at 10? He's a good player, but not an international quality outside-half and South Africa need to get their outside backs -- who have real talent, though its a shame about the injured centre -- into the match if they are going to beat New Zealand.

Butch James was the obvious first choice because of his recent success against england in the spring tests and in his Super 14 season this year and they can't pick Andre Pretorius because of his recent spate of injuries and his bad (i say it loosely) defence. Hougaard is the back up and he is not as good as James so Butch is the obvious choice.

I just can't believe that there isn't a real playmaker at No 10 in S African rugby. If du Preez continues the way he did on Friday, they may not need one.

Italy beat Portugal 31 - 5, it may not seem like a good result (for either team, believe me) but I am very impressed by Portugal, here they are, never played any major rugby comps before and they have a try against 3 teams that play frequent ultimate level rugby

do not forget they are the only non professional team... All players don't live out of rugby they are lawyers, doctors, business managers, etc they train about twice a week for about 2 hours after their work hours... impressive let's see if at least they can win the last game against romania

McEnroe's Irish Support in Vain
September 22, 2007
mcenroe_rugby.jpg

John McEnroe risked the wrath of the Parisian fans last night by attending the France vs. Ireland World Cup rugby match at the Stade de France wrapped in a green, Irish scarf.

The American joined Thomas Muster, Sergi Bruguera and the rest of the Trophee Jean Luc Lagardere field in what was, for many of them, a first ever trip to a rugby match.

Surrounded by Frenchmen Henri Leconte, Guy Forget and Cedric Pioline, and flanked by Austrian Muster and Spaniard Bruguera who were both diplomatically supporting France, McEnroe chose to stick with his Irish roots – his parents were both born in Ireland.

Unfortunately for McEnroe, his team could only muster a single drop goal in a 25-3 defeat, but he took defeat philosophically.

“I tell you, France were good,” said McEnroe.

“I don’t know that much about the sport but France looked strong. I’m disappointed in the result, but it’s a nice little perk (of the tournament) to come here, it’s beautiful. I’m thinking about taking up rugby in my next career, but I might have to put on a few pounds first!

The visit came as a treat from the owner of the Trophee Jean Luc Lagardere – Arnaud Lagardere – and Tournament Director Guy Forget was delighted to be able to welcome the players.

“I think it’s great,” said Forget.

“It’s a great opportunity and that’s what the BlackRock Tour of Champions is all about – the guys coming together after the matches and having fun. John has Irish roots so he was really into the match, but all the players had a great time and we really have to thank Arnaud Lagardere for making it so nice for us.”

The full story of the champions’ trip to the Stade de France can be followed on the next edition of the BlackRock Tennis Champions Podcast, which will be out next week.

There will be exclusive interviews with all of the players, a rare Thomas Muster interview with Sergi Bruguera asking the questions, and a world first – Thomas Muster singing.

but, yes, of course i am rooting for Scotland, but i think that South Africa will win the world cup, even though new Zealand (who will probably beat Scotland today) are heavy favourites, they have been favourites since the tournament started in 1987 and have only won it once.

Australia beat Fiji 55 - 12, and ill just say that Scotland are a disgrace, putting out a 2nd team when people pay £185 per ticket and they are getting what they deserve for it just now

They were heavy favourites in '99 and '03 but they seem to wither under the expectation, I think they'll do it this time, so many errors today and they still pu 40 over Scotland, shows how poor northern hemisphere rugby is right now.Still i'd like to welcome Scotland to the "0" club, share the shame! Plus who's bright idea was the kit clash?I know scotland won the right to be the "home" team but that made it a bit hard on the ref don't you think?

ah, but with all due respect, England, the reigning world champions and owners of Jonny Wilkinson (not that hes great anyway) got beat 36 - 0 by a team that hasnt really done much since their 1995 WC win, whereas Scotland were put in the '0' club by the called-by-everybody best team in the world, the new zealand all blacks, so you cant really blame us, and it was also a second team, whereas England were full strength

Romania 14 - Portugal 10, now thats a shocker for Romania, they've been playing (sort of) top flight rugger for a while now

Sadly that was a "full" strength England team.........well as full and organised as we seem to be able to muster which is shocking given the playing resources w ehave as a country!
I was surprised that scotland put out a second 15 as it were, I know they'd of probably been beaten either way but it wasn't that bad (as the score indicated so i thought) and if they'd of had a full Scotland 15 out there might o tested them and gained some proper confidence even in defeat.Which would help in the next obviously easier (whoever it is) match.
Struggling to see anyone beating the all blacks though.

it was a sign that Scotland knew they were going to be beaten, but when people pay £185 for tiks, they deserve a first team, you know?

Another results a 12 all draw between Canada and Japan

ah, ok, ill make a prediction of los pumas scoring 25 - 30 points and Ireland scoring less than 10, if you want more exact, tell me, either the first or it'll be closer ;)
