It has been an interesting week for off the court news especially when this time of year is rather quiet. Speculation started that Novak Djokovic is in “serious” negotiations with K-Swiss to wear their clothing in 2010. Shortly after other reports were saying that the German sports giant Adidas was making a push to sign Murray. Earlier this year we covered a similar story of K-Swiss going after Murray but in the end they failed and now it seems they have moved onto to Djokovic. After Nole made the strange move of switching racquet manufacturers at the beginning of 2009 nothing the Serb does should really shock us as he is obviously as much about the money as he is about the tennis and who can blame him. Another factor here is that Djokovic has spoken his displeasure about many of the Adidas shoes he has worn in the past especially during the grass court season where most notably he wore Nike shoes with a whited out swoosh.
Overall, it would not surprise us at all if both players stay put and are using these rumors to possibly increase the price of their current contract with Adidas and Fred Perry, especially given the fact that each player now has their own clothing line with their current manufacturer (Djokovic: Falcon, Murray: A.M.). One thing is for certain, if Adidas were to lose Djokovic to K-Swiss I have no doubt in my mind that they would try very hard to sign Murray as they would no longer have any male player representation in the current top 7.
