Rumours swirling at Melbourne Park that Jannik Sinner is battling pneumonia

If true, there is no way he can continue. He seems to be prone to all sorts of illnesses which doesn't bode well for his future as a player.

There's literally nothing to go on here. Not even a hint of a reason for the rumor.

Is he sick? Yeah, probably, based on what he said and how he looked. But there's no reason to jump to pneumonia.

Channel 9, Millman and Hewitt were talking about it this morning and it's all over the media.

I didn't just make pneumonia up out of nowhere. Sure it might not be real but it's being discussed.

If Sinner's coach were a super well connected and well liked Australian former player, he'd be well placed to have his friends in Tennis Australia put the word out

But that's none of my business

I read the link you posted and I'm saying there's nothing to back up what they're saying, they don't even hint at where this rumor started. They're just speculating.

Sinner has a tight-lipped team, do we really think one of them blabbed about what he has? Did a pharmacist talk? Someone see him taking specific pills? Where is this coming from?

Rosstour did a pretty good job at answering this one. Y'all forgetting Sinner's coach is literally Aussie Darren Cahill.

Why in god's name would you ever put the word out about being ill? Athletes bend over backwards to hide that kind of stuff, not leak it.

Who said Jannik wasn't feeling well when asked on Monday and that was it. You think Cahill is leaking that his player has pneumonia?
Leaking is a strong word, not saying he did it on purpose but these guys all talk to eachother having been friends in the industry since they played together in the 80s. Word probably just got out.

Could be all crap anyway.

What if he had covid and chose to call it something else so he wouldn't have to isolate? It was quite prevalent in Melbourne before Christmas.

Rosario Sorrentino, neurologist and science communicator, intervened on the illness suffered by the young Italian talent, who advanced a hypothesis on the causes of the problem. A hypothesis that would also explain the reticence of the world number 1 in explaining precisely what happened to him. "I saw the video in which our Jannik Sinner's hands were shaking and I am convinced that it is a panic attack. Extreme sports with high competitive intensity, especially of the anaerobic type, such as tennis, can be a trigger factor for unleashing a panic attack in predisposed subjects"

According to the neurologist, the panic attack "can manifest itself with both physical and mental disorders. It presents with tremors in the hands and legs, a sense of dizziness with tachycardia and hyperventilation, which are the key symptoms". Added to these symptoms is a psychological element: "The fear of the sensations felt takes over, with discomfort in starting again. These sensations last a few seconds, a few minutes at most, but are capable of destabilizing the perception of control and physical performance of the athlete due to the strong fear of being able to experience those sensations again", he underlines.

In short, a panic attack could be what struck Sinner on the field and in the scorching heat of Melbourne. Finally, Sorrentino underlines that Sinner's behavior was completely understandable: "The athlete tends in those moments to stop to understand what happened to him, as Sinner did", he concludes.

One with "hamstring" and one with oneumonia? That would be a fascinating battle. But i do not buy Djokovic s story. He had hamstring injury in 23 and 21 and won. And let me tell you this, with this kind of injury you can barelly move, let alone play on the highest level. He is just an injury faker. He always was
He probably felt some discomfort but it ain't hamstring. You can barely walk properly with a hamstring. You won't be running and hitting forehands and backhands.

Idk, some athletes like Djokovic go out of their way to let people know they're injured, and Sinner now employs like half of Djokovic's former team. It makes sense to make that he's taking a page out of Novak's handbook with this. Clearly there may be something to lulling your opponent into a false sense of confidence.

Hmmm. Hmmmmm

Let’s see how things go in the next few hours. If he really does have f*cking pneumonia, AdM with all his scrambling on a slowish HC should be an absolute drain for him

I’m not buying it tbh

The young Sinner fell ill during the match, took a MTO and then proceeded to destroy Rune. Sinner is just fine.

Lol no way he has pneumonia what the hell :-D , he would retire the same second he learnt he has gotten it.

He probably has cold or a virus with similar symptoms to cold.

Sinner could easily have mild walking pneumonia which is not life threatening and which you can carry for weeks or months without detection. Treatment would be antibiotics and he would experience relief within 72 hours.

My theory is that if he retires gracefully with a mysterious ailment, he can skip the finals before his ban and not have an asterisked slam.

some people can play thru injuries with adrenaline and mental toughness. djoker is one of those players.

Finally we have someone who can match Djokovic on HC or even surpass him, but his fitness issues indicate that he should already start writing his will.

You guys are inbelievable, mocking Djokovic every single time he strain something a bit, thinking he is faking it, but believing in Sinner playing with a freaking pneumonia.

No one believes Sinner lol. This is like when he had “tonsilitis” which was supposedly so bad that he had to miss the Olympics and then he was filmed kissing his gf’s face off within a day or two and frolicking in the ocean… classic recuperation

This is a guy who probably intentionally doped, trusting him is ridiculous
