Rune - a new Nalbandian?

Occasionally great and getting a few wins over top players in best of three, doesn't really have what it takes in best of five in the grand slams.

After making a wimbledon final at the age of 20, Nalbandian didn't really show much in the slams since. His career highlights ended up being a couple of good indoor masters runs.

People are projecting big things for Rune, but potentially he could follow a similar destiny - a guy who is some times great in best of three, but never develops the endurance, consistency or mentality for the slams.

Nope, Rune making an effort Nab struggled to prioritize tennis.
Rune will develop as he's growing. Nab got to a place and said that good enough, money good, lifestyle good, hamburgers good.

Could happen, but who knows. Nalby was indeed super talented when it comes to hitting the ball.

His serve was not up to snuff though.

Nalbandian was good at slams until RG 2006. He didn't win one but it's not right to say he didn't show much when he made SF at all slams.

I feel Rune is less talented but will achieve more. He is still young.

i do think that now all good players are gone from ATP, ANY player may win grand slam and get lucky.

Maybe Rune will be a lucky Nalbrandian and win someting important?

He has half Nalbandian's talent, if that.
Watching his matches, I think he's very good. Top 20 in a strong era.

don't sell nalby short, he worked real hard on expanding his belly circumference

Nalbandian was better/more consistent in Bo5/slams compared to Bo3 in 2002-06. it only changed in 07.
Wim final in 02, wins vs fed in AO 03/USO 03,USO 03 semi (barely losing), AO 04 run, RG 04 run, AO 05 run, QFs in Wim 05/USO 05, SF in AO 06, RG 06.
even YEC 05 final he won was Bo5
