I love to run and usually run 4-7 miles about four times a week. My challenge is this... I run at about 6am and play most of my tennis matches (3-5 times a week) after work, starting around 6-7 pm or so. I don't want to back off the running but I sort of feel like I shouldn't run too much the morning after a long match. Any ideas on how to schedule this?

BTW, I am female, 47 and play 3.5-4.0 singles.

I run between 4 & 5 miles everyother day during the winter and play tennis strictly alone during the warm weather. If you want to run and play tennis also I would schedule 3 days a week for running (seven miles) . Then you could play tennis without feeling "shot" .

so like don't you get bored playing with yourself?

Also do you reccomend running sunning straight or doesn't it matter, i mean, i don't really want to run on public paths early in the morning (where i live its kinda dodgy). So like i was thinking of runnning in my back garden which is around 10 metres wide and then just do back and forth...good idea or not?

You know what I mean !! I run a rubber track. Its soft & I can count the laps that add up to miles. I would never run a path or the side of the road thats bleak ! Too hard on the joints, buit you live in the U.K. my nephew went to college there at Oxford U. and he told me its very hard to find find places to exercise or run, plus the weather is crummy. Find a track and get a partner that really helps you stay on the program. Good Luck old man !

-.-, i'm 15, I'M NOT AN OLD MAN!!! -.-

Do you think that swimming is an alternative to running? There's a pool near me and i go swimming nearly every week. But then i don't swim, as much as you run, i think the most i swim is a mile and even that was today, but if you say it works then i might swim more....

Sorry old man is an old expression similar today's "good luck man". I play tennis during the warm months sans running sans means without. I play a variety of players is that clear. Swimming is great I have an inground pool and use that when I have fiinshed playing. Relaxs the muscles. If you can run 3 miles in 26 minutes or so consider yourself a fit human being. Good luck od chap; thats how an Englisman would say it.

*sigh* this is where my weakest part of my game comes in, i have like so little stamina, i'm more of a power person, I can run the 100m in around 14 secs (that was last year though), does that mean the same thing? lol, j/k.

-.-, I'M NOT ODD!! -.-, hehe, i'd like to think that we English would be a tad more polite :) =p

You got me ! Funny about the English being polite my Dad was over there in 1943 and always thought the English were so mild mannered like the old silent actor Ronald Coleman and Leslie Howard. He told boy those Englishmen like to fight; regardless good luck kid !

Now, i think kid is stretching it a little, what teenager you know likes to be called a kid? if you had just said "good luck" full stop (or 'period' as you americans say) then everything would have been fine...........................LOL :) now, to find a running track AND drag myself out of bed early enough....

try cycling, unless your knees are indestructable. I used to run, eventually, especially if on hard surfaces, your knees will give up on you. This is accelerated by the high impact nature of tennis as well.
