Ruud is getting sick of players complaining about balls

Casper Ruud says he’s tired of seeing players complain about the balls all the time:

“You see players complain about the balls all the time. I’m getting so tired of like ‘Oh, I feel my elbow… I feel this, that. I can’t produce power. It suits this player..’ Come on. Just play.”

“For me what’s funny is some players come like 5 days in advance to practice. And I do it myself a lot of the times, unless you’re going from tournament to tournament. They string like 28 racquets to get the right tension. Then they come to the 4th round and start complaining about the balls. But it’s been the same balls for the past 9 days. What’s the point of bringing it up now to the umpire? Like what is he gonna change? ‘yeah, let me call Dunlop I’ll have them send over a can for you’ . What’s the point? Just to make drama out of nothing?”

To be fair he should stop teabagging Meddy and the other players in the locker room if he doesnt want them complaining.

Even rec players at 4.5 level in my club complain if someone brings Dunlop premium balls as they fluff up quickly like a dog’s chew toy and ‘feel’ heavy and slow really quickly - flatter hitters struggle to hit winners with them after that. Some rec players in my group have complained exactly like the pros that their wrists and/or elbows hurt once the ball fluffs up. I’m not surprised that a flat hitter like Medvedev constantly complains about tournaments using Dunlop Extra Duty AO or ATP Tour balls while a heavy topspinner like Ruud probably likes these balls and wants everyone else to stop complaining about them.

I bet that if they use a light feeling ball with less fluff like a Regular Duty Penn Championship ball at a tournament, Ruud will be the first one to complain as it won’t suit his game at all.

They should and let this Ruud out to be a hypo

The balls make so much difference, it's ridiculous to say what he ranted

Good on him, I like Ruud. He doesn't come up with some BS like so many other top guys do when they lose. Complaining about the schedule or the balls or the stadium. He just gets out there and does his thing. The other men need to seriously shutup with their constant whining, it's becoming a joke.

Sir, :), the ATP Tour doesn’t think it’s a joke it thinks tennis balls is an issue and is moving on addressing the problem. Majors do their own thing but are being cooperative with the ATP on the tennis balls issue.

It is a real issue. Ruud should have kept his mouth shut.

Of course it’s an issue. Ruud has never come close to winning a major and may not appreciate the difference tennis balls can make in a game of inches like an elite player can appreciate. ;)

Plus the balls work in his favor.
When they get closer to consistency among tournaments and with a ball less likely to cause injury Ruud will drop back to his natural spot in the rankings more reflective of his talent and game: 59-100.

It’s amusing a guy complaining about the comfort of the changeover chairs and towel situation has an issue with players complaining about the tennis balls.

Lol

Aside from his 3 finals
If he had just won three more sets against Rafa on clay at the FO then he would be a FO champion. So close. :giggle:

Yes. Like I said, not even close. I want a refund for Charles boring blowout at USO where the commentators tried to pretend Ruud ever had a prayer of winning because Charles dropped a set.

You think he was close to winning any of those? I guess the opponent can always get injured. Worst #2 ever?

I only complain about those garbage penn balls. Everything else is fine.

Ruud can win a RG. He is not close but not far off a MUG like Sascha.

outside no.

Yeah he’s probably the worst #2 ever but what world are we living in where making it to a slam final three times “isn’t even close”. He’s not elite and that’s fine but let’s have some respect for the basic facts of the sport, at least discuss with a little more nuance if you want to say that odds he would win those finals are low.

We are living in a TTW world and I am a TTW boy. (you have to sing it :D)

Let’s take the opportunity to diss Ruud when it presents itself. I’ll try nuance in another thread.

PS, odds he was beating Vamos at the FO during his first major final were zero. 8-B

Rafa has spoken up about the balls. Even zverev agreed with med and we know their history.
The issues are they’re slowing the game down for longer rallies? We saw the fast pace conditions at the us open and noticed how many upsets there were, no? Who wanted a Draper:sinner SF vs Alcarez /sinner?

The other complaint is complaining about using different balls that are inconsistent quality for hard and clay courts. I’ve not seen complaints during the short term grass season.

Hm I like Ruud now

Generally it kind of makes sense though that Ruud has a kind of playstyle which depends less on balls and Medvedev quite the opposite.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I do know that the combo of some of these crappy balls sold now and a frame shot is not fun. Basically a drive drop shot that dies.

Whining about people whining is still whining.

Ruud should mind his own business instead of disputing the legitimacy of others' grievances.
The change of balls do benefit his play style.
I’m not entirely sure why they are making these adjustments? It’s not ideal nor consistent week to week either. Same with court speeds - especially on hard courts - should not be this slow.

My only beef with my fav Dr Raul and it’s not really a beef so much as a wish is that he spend less of his valuable time on what I do realize will be a very important work — his treatise on electric vehicles — and instead devote more time to contributing his insightful opinions on tennis topics. :(

We are all privileged to be able to read Dr. Raul’s visionary sermons on the EV industry

The court speed, temperature, humidity, wind, and tennis balls are the same for both players. Play ball.
Ruud is right. Many tennis pros are snowflakes.

A new joke

It is not clear whether players are complaining about tennis balls or some other balls :)

Lol

I get Ruud, he probably hears it all the time in the back from the rest of the boys, maybe when he practises with them also, and I get it if he is tired of hearing it. But they do have a valid point also.
