Former world No. 1 Marat Safin has claimed Bernard Tomic is the biggest party animal tennis has ever seen following his embarrassing first-round loss at the French Open.

Speaking to French sports website L’Equipe, the two-time grand-slam champion believes Tomic “holds all the [partying] records” and that his primary focus is out of whack.

“For him it’s party, party, party – and then tennis,” Safin said.

So here is the question that I always think about whenever I see a story like this in tennis or any other professional sport. How do these guys party as hard as described but still remain in the top .01% of fitness compared to the rest of the planet. If you are really partying hard, you are hung over a lot, eating poorly, not being active, etc. Are they just party-binges followed by long training blocks that no one reports on? These are the things that keep me up at night.........

You’ve been 25 before? You can stab yourself infront of the mirror with an ice pick and watch the holes close. Drinking and working out go together like bacon and eggs until about 30.

Also, it’s more than fitness when you see the chubbies on tour winning.

All of my life I failed miserably in challenging that idea.
 
The guy is not looking at how to party long term. Just win 2 to 3 rounds at majors and you made $100-$200k to spend on even more partying!!!
 
Safin may have been a huge party animal, who sometimes looked fed up with tennis, but he was hardly ever dull to watch on a tennis court for the fans. He was like Ivanisevic, insanely talented, funny as heck and had an unpredictable temperament. He was entertaining, whether playing amazing tennis, lashing out and moaning, or having meltdowns on the court.

Tomic is just boring outside of parties, and seems to resent tennis and the fans full stop.

Safin did at least rouse himself to win 2 Slams, make 2 other finals, win a few more big titles and get to be ranked #1 in the world in between parties. Tomic seems to have decided to skip those boring bits and just head straight for the disco! :cool:
